The first weekend of the LEC’s Spring Split is over! We were all treated to a plethora of great games by the best Europe has to offer. We saw a few familiar faces take the stage, like the G2 Esports superteam and the 2018 Worlds Finalists, Fnatic. However, we also saw some new faces grace the stage, like Rogue and EXCEL Esports. However, there will always be a victor at the end of the day, so let’s take a look at this week’s Winners and Losers of the LEC.

Winners: G2 Esports, Misfits Gaming, SK Gaming
Our winners for this week go to G2 Esports, Misfits Gaming, and SK Gaming for their great play this week. For the first two teams, it is pretty self-explanatory. The two superteams of the LEC went 2-0 this week, and look poised to fight for the European crowd. Of course, it has only been one week but from what we have seen, G2 Esports and Misfits look quite strong.
G2 Esports made short work of Schalke 04 and Fnatic, two really strong teams. Their firepower looks almost unstoppable, with the combination of Rasmus “Caps” Winther and Luka “Perkz” Perković. They showed their compositional flexibility as well, especially in their first game against Fnatic. On the other hand, Misfits look quite strong with their veteran lineup. Steven “Hans Sama” Liv took off this weekend, finishing with fifteen kills and no deaths. Their team play was exceptional, with great rotations and ganks as a team. Nubar “Maxlore” Sarafian was also plying quite well, with good jungle pathing and great picks with Lee Sin and Camille.
We also mention SK Gaming as winners of week one, even though they did lose against Misfits today. They are a very young team, with three players who haven’t played in the LEC before. They were able to take down Fnatic, who were just at the World Finals two months ago. Although it does look like Fnatic is having some growing pains with their new mid laner, Tim “Nemesis” Lipovšek, they still have four of the five members from last year. One player who was especially impressive was jungler Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek. Those boys from Mad Lions really are something.
Losers: Fnatic, Rogue
There are two different stories here with Fnatic and Rogue. For Fnatic, they are still adjusting to the loss of Caps in the mid lane. Caps was a polarizing player and was undoubtedly the most important player on the team. It is a very similar situation to Cloud9 over in North America, who lost Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen in the offseason. Both those teams will need to change their gameplan heading into the rest of the season. However, once they learn how to play with Nemesis, I have no doubt that Fnatic will be fighting for playoff contention by the end of the spring.
With Rogue, it is a completely different situation. This roster just doesn’t have enough firepower to stand up in the LEC. Martin “HeaQ” Kordmaa wasn’t even remotely good this weekend, as the bottom lane was a huge liability as a result. It is unfortunate that they were not able to keep the Kim “Wadid” Bae-in/Petter “Hjarnan” Freyschuss duo. Mateusz “Kikis” Szkudlarek was alright but doesn’t have much to work with as Rogue’s jungler. They may want to consider bringing up some players from their Academy team, like Emil “Larssen” Larsson and Paweł “Woolite” Pruski.
