While Epic Games is refusing to address the elephant in the room, the controversial revert, they still have new items planned for Fortnite. Located in the v8.30 update files, data-miner HYPEX has leaked a new Shadow Bomb item.

Down below you can see that the term Shadow Bomb appears with different cues. Activation and deactivation, camera shake, etc. This all hints at the Shadow Bomb being some type of usable or throwable item.

Along with the new file names for the Shadow Bomb, HYPEX also found some audio files. From strictly listening, it sounds very similar to the Season 6 Shadow Stones.

If you’re unfamiliar with this item, a Shadow Stone enabled the user to float around nearly undetectable for a short duration. During this time, the player was unable to use any weapons but could move faster than a normal running pace. These stones were found in craters around the map but were not an actual picked up item.

While it is plausible Epic Games added these files in by mistake or they were leftover from Season 6, it’s unlikely. This Shadow Bomb item looks to be coming to Fortnite within the next few updates if history reigns true.

What will the Shadow Bomb do?

According to the audio files, it appears the Shadow Bomb will be a portable Shadow Stone. Epic has done this kind of thing in the past, most recently with the Rift-To-Go’s. Introduced in Season 5, rifts were placed around the map for any player to use. However, Epic later turned them into a portable item found in chests.

It would make sense that the same thing could be done with the Shadow Bomb. The Shadow Stones were a useful item, enabling the user to fly around the map while avoiding detection.

There are some other routes for Epic to go with this item. One route is bringing back the Hop Rocks from Season 4 and converting them into a throwable item. The audio files don’t completely rule this possibility out. Also, the cues “Activation and Deactivation” are terms closely associated with Hop Rocks.

All that being said, the term “Shadow” in the item’s title seems to make its purpose quite clear. While things could still change, it does seem to indicate that it will be the Shadow Stones making their Fortnite return in throwable form.

What’s your opinion on the new leaked item? Do you think it’s good or bad for Fortnite? Let us know in the comments below. Also, make sure to check back often for all future Fortnite news and updates.
