Dying Light 2 Stay Human is one of 2022’s most-anticipated games. The success of its predecessor, Dying Light, makes the second installment from developer Techland a must-play for RPG/open-world fans. The developers have included some exciting features for fans, including four-player co-op, a new and larger map and an entirely new story and protagonist. Fans are also curious if Dying Light 2 Stay Human will have crossplay. Unfortunately for those fans, the developers have confirmed that crossplay will not be included in Dying Light 2 at launch.

Crossplay is an important feature in any game that releases in 2022. It’s how players on different platforms play together. A game without crossplay limits players to playing with people that are only on their platform of choice, i.e. PC, Xbox, PlayStation, etc. Developer Techland has confirmed that the feature will not be in Dying Light 2 at launch, but fans can read about how co-op works below.

Dying Light 2 and crossplay

The lack of crossplay in Dying Light 2 means that players will need to play with people on their specific platform. This even applies to next-gen versions of consoles. If players are on PlayStation 5, they can’t play with people on PlayStation 4, along with Xbox and PC users.

While this is disappointing for fans wanting to participate in co-op, the developers are offering a free next-gen upgrade. This means if PS4 users buy a PS5, they can upgrade their version of Dying Light 2 for free on their new console.

Co-op in Dying Light 2 lets up to four players team up to take on the zombie-infested world together. The map is set in a fictional town called “The City,” which is somewhere in Europe. Players take on the role of Aiden Caldwell and those playing in co-op will be able to do any mission with their party. Items players acquire during co-op are kept even if the session ends and players go back to playing by themselves. This also applies to player progression.

Dying Light 2 Stay human releases on Feb. 4 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
