Every open world video game needs a sort of hub area. This is where players can find a majority of the NPCs they’ll meet throughout their journey. In the hub area, players can talk to NPCs, accept quests, buy and sell items from merchants and learn about the environment around them. In Hogwarts Legacy, it seems like the Common Rooms will be the hub area for each player.

Common Rooms are an integral part of Hogwarts as a school. They serve as the location where students spend most of their time outside of the classroom. There are sitting areas, bedrooms and other areas where students can converse with their housemates. Seeing as players can choose their House in Hogwarts Legacy, the Common Rooms will likely play a major role in players deciding which House they want to be a part of. As such, it’s worth going over how the Common Rooms will work in Hogwarts Legacy.

The Common Rooms in Hogwarts Legacy

As one would expect, each Common Room in Hogwarts will be different from one another. The recent State of Play trailer briefly showcased each of the Common Rooms, allowing players to see a little of what each has to offer. Below, you can watch a video from YouTuber Benjamin Show, who goes over each Common Room in-depth.

When players pick their House, they’ll be able to enter the Common Room associated with that House. Like in the Harry Potter series, there will be some kind of security in place that bars students of other Houses from entering. So if you’re a Slytherin, you can’t be sneaky and infiltrate the Gryffindor Common Room. The security will likely be some kind of password or puzzle that you might have to memorize.

Each of the Common Rooms will be located in different parts of the castle. You might be able to fast travel there if you wish but you could also walk the halls and stairs of Hogwarts to return to your Common Room.

Inside of each room, you will find other NPC students from your House. It’s likely you will be able to speak with some of them and perhaps befriend others. There could be side quests available here, given to you by students who need help with a particular task. All of this will presumably take place in the sitting area of each Common Room.

Beyond the sitting areas, there will be bedrooms. Your bedroom will presumably be assigned to you. Obviously, this is where you can sleep to fast forward to the next day or rest up after an encounter with a foe. It’s unclear exactly how much time you’ll actually spend in your bedroom but the trailer did make it seem like you could customize some elements of it. Although, the Room of Requirement is where you’ll do most of your in-game customizations.

Outside of all of this, we’re not exactly sure what the developers have planned for the Common Rooms. There could be more surprises waiting for players once Hogwarts Legacy launches.
