Elden Ring is just a few days old but a prominent mod community has already started to bloom. At this time, mods are exclusive to PC and really only accessible through one website: Nexus Mods. This site is the home to millions of mods for titles such as Skyrim, Fallout and Cyberpunk 2077. However, for any first-time mod user, the process to install mods in Elden Ring might seem a little daunting.

There are some technical steps involved in the process of installing a mod onto your PC so players should expect to do some groundwork in order to get their mod working. If the process has deterred you from installing a mod, or you just need help, continue reading below.

Installing PC mods in Elden Ring

First, you must head over to Nexusmods.com and sign up for an account. Then, type Elden Ring into the top search bar and sift through the various mods that have been uploaded so far. There’s a mod to pause the game, a mod that adds an HDR reshade and more.

Whichever mod you decide to install, the process to get it working will be similar. However, some mods will require you to install another mod, so be sure to read each mod’s description to learn any pertinent information.

Once you’ve picked the mod you want to install, you can do one of two things. The first is to download the mod to a Mod Manager, such as Vortex. This is Nexus Mods’ own manager, so it’s what many players choose. In the Mod Manager, the mod will download here and you can choose to install it easily through the application’s UI. If you don’t want to use a Mod Manager, you need to manually download the file. You can download it manually or through the Mod Manager by selecting the “Files” tab on the mod’s page. Once it’s downloaded, open it up and extract it to a folder of your choice.

After that, you need to find your folder with the Elden Ring .exe file. This is usually located in the Program Files x86 folder on whichever drive you installed Elden Ring onto. Once you’ve found the .exe folder, copy everything from the “main” file of the mod into this folder. You can do this by simply dragging everything in the mod’s folder into the Elden Ring.exe folder. Now, your mod will be working the next time you boot up Elden Ring.

Some mods require a different process, though, so always make sure to read the entire description of the mod before proceeding to install it.
