Some of the most famous witches and wizards in the Wizarding World are just known by one name. From Voldemort to Merlin, singular names can be the mark of a great witch or wizard. In Hogwarts Legacy, the game seemingly forces you to choose both a first and last name, as is customary for a normal student at the famous school. However, some Hogwarts Legacy fans have found a way around this and discovered how to only use a single name.

While this isn’t anything ground-breaking when it comes to gameplay, it does give players more options when customizing their character. And, a single name usually sounds better than throwing together a complete name together. If you want to take advantage of this quirk in the system, keep reading the guide below.

Using a single name in Hogwarts Legacy

This workaround was discovered by a person on Reddit. They posted their method to the Hogwarts Legacy subreddit, and fans have since been taking advantage of it. The steps to use a single name aren’t too complicated, and you can see them listed below.

  • Copy this code into the “first name” box of the character name
  • Enter a random letter after that code and then delete the entire box’s text
  • Put your desired name into the “last name” box
  • Finish the character creator

If all has gone according to plan, your character should only have one name, being the last name you entered. Your “Name your Character” box should look like the image below, which is courtesy of the Redditor who came up with this method.

However, the Redditor warns that Hogwarts Legacy will call you “Charlotte” in some parts of the game, likely because it expects you to have two names and you only have one. Aside from that, there don’t appear to be any consequences to taking advantage of this workaround. You can now be a single name witch or wizard in Hogwarts Legacy.
