Held items are one of the most powerful mechanics that a trainer has at their disposal in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Not only can they save your Pokémon from fainting in the heat of battle, but they can also swing a battle in your favor or aid your exploration around the map of Paldea. More often than not, though, players are looking for held items that will help their Pokémon in battle. There are few held items in Scarlet and Violet that accomplish this goal better than the Shell Bell.

The Shell Bell is a held item that was introduced in Generation III. It is an item that, when given to a Pokémon, restores a small amount of HP every single turn. While not as strong as the Leftovers item, which restores more HP every turn, the Shell Bell is a terrific early game item that can help with those pesky Gym Battles or Team Star bases.

Getting the Shell Bell in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

There are two different ways you can go about acquiring the Shell Bell in Paldea. The first, and easiest, way of getting the held item is to visit the Delibird Presents store in the city of Levincia. Inside the store, you can purchase the Shell Bell for 20,000 Poké Dollars. There is no Gym Badge requirement for this item, so you can buy it at the very start of the game. You can continue buying as many Shell Bells as you like or until you run out of money!

If you want to go the free route, however, you can visit the South Province (Area Three) Pokémon Center. Here, you can talk to the Pokémon League representative. If you’ve defeated six trainers in the area, he will reward you with a single Shell Bell. In the South Province (Area Three), there are over a dozen trainers waiting for a battle, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding just six to battle.

Once you have the Shell Bell in your inventory, you can give it to any Pokémon you’d like. Then, when that Pokémon is in battle and takes some damage, the Shell Bell will restore a little HP after every turn.
