Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are now officially out in every region.

As players embark on their ninth-generation quest across the Paldea region, many players will be mauling over which starter Pokémonto choose. After all, players can only pick one to start out with and the choices in this generation are hard. There is the Fire Croc Pokemon Fuecoco, the Grass Cat Pokémon Sprigatito and the Duckling Pokémon Quaxly.

Players probably wish they could acquire them all. The good news is that you can! Players can actually play with all three starter Pokémon in the same save data if they want to. Here is a quick guide on how.

This trick may not be new for long-time players of the Pokémon game franchise as it’s the same method as every generation before this one. To acquire every starter Pokémon in PokémonScarlet and Violet, simply start a new save data and progress to the point where you can choose your starting Pokémon. It doesn’t matter which Pokémon you start with so pick any of the three. After that, you are going to want to go to the Poke Portal option in the main menu. For this step you will need a friend with a copy of the game.

Once you have your friend and have accessed the Poké Portal, choose the Link Trade option, allowing both you and your friend to trade Pokémon. Trade them your first starter Pokémon and then start a new save file. Repeat for the two remaining starter Pokémon. After this has been completed, simply set up the Link Trade one last time and have your friend send over the three starter Pokémon. If you followed these steps, you should have a new account with all three starter Pokémon.

For players who don’t have a friend that can do this, there is still a way that will be coming to the game shortly after release. Pokémon HOME, the online Pokémon storage database will be compatible with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet but will not be available on release. Players can look forward to this in the spring of 2023.
