A fan-favorite gimmick among Pokémon players is the ability to walk throughout the in-game world with your favorite Pokémon by your side. The player’s starter Pikachu in Pokémon Yellow was the first-ever Walking Pokémon, although the concept first saw widespread implementation in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.

In Pokémon GO, players can enjoy a similar experience with their appointed Buddy Pokémon. With this feature, you can select a Pokémon you have captured and engage with it in unique ways to earn special rewards. Here’s how you can get a Souvenir from your Buddy Pokémon in Pokémon GO.

You will not be able to collect a Souvenir from your Buddy Pokémon in Pokémon GO until you have raised its Buddy Level by earning Affection hearts. There are a number of actions you can take to earn Affection hearts for your Buddy Pokémon. These include giving your Buddy a treat, using it in a battle, taking a picture of it, going to a new location with it and walking or playing with it.

As you earn enough Affection hearts, your Buddy’s Buddy Level will increase. With each new Buddy Level comes a set of new perks you can enjoy. To receive Souvenirs, you will have to earn 150 Affection hearts for your Buddy Pokémon in order to raise its Buddy Level to “Ultra Buddy.”

Once your Buddy Pokémon has reached the “Ultra Buddy” Buddy Level, it will occasionally deliver a Souvenir to you in the same way it might deliver a Gift. Anytime your Buddy Pokémon brings you a Souvenir, it will notably raise that Pokémon’s Affection in the “Bonus” category.

List of Souvenirs

Here is a list of every Souvenir your Buddy Pokémon can give to you in Pokémon GO:

  • Beach Glass
  • Cactus Fruit
  • Chalky Stone
  • Confetti
  • Flower Fruits
  • Lone Earring
  • Marble
  • Mushroom
  • Pikachu Visor
  • Pretty Leaf
  • Skipping Stone
  • Small Bouquet
  • Snowy Pinecone
  • Stretchy Spring
  • Torn Ticket
  • Tropical Flower
  • Tropical Shell

Note that the Confetti and Pikachu Visor were event-exclusive Souvenirs that are not available at all times. In addition, the likelihood of receiving certain Souvenirs varies based on your location. Each Souvenir you receive should note where your Buddy Pokémon found it.

While your Buddy Pokémon will gain Affection hearts by finding Souvenirs, they do not serve a specific purpose once you have received them. As a result, they do not appear as held items that take up space in your Bag. Instead, all of the Souvenirs you have collected are displayed on your Buddy Pokémon’s information screen.
