Restarting the router is a safe choice
As is standard for tech issues, turning things on and off again is usually a good thing to try. In this case, restarting your router is a possible way to fix packet loss issues. Causing your router to reconnect to your internet provider can sometimes make the connection stronger, and by extension, your connection.
Simply find your router, and unplug it from your power outlet. Wait at least one minute before reconnecting it and letting it boot up again.
Swap to a wired connection if possible
When it comes to competitive video games on any console, a wired connection is always better than a wireless one. Ethernet cables can provide much more peace of mind because the only router issue you have to worry about is the connection to the provider itself.
If you’re in a scenario where your router is on a different floor, there are specific items you can buy that allow you to get a half-wired, half-wireless connection to your router. Ethernet power adapters can give you a more stable connection to your router if you can’t get a cable straight to it.
Flushing the DNS cache
In Windows, the DNS cache contains records of IP addresses as well as other key internet-related information. One way to create a better connection to gaming servers can be to clean out those records and reconnect with a fresher computer.
To flush your DNS cache, start by going to your Start menu and typing “cmd” in the bar. Open the program as an administrator and type “ipconfig/flushdns” in CMD and hit Enter. Then, restart your computer.
