The recent release of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer beta had plenty of players dusting off their PlayStation 5 or buying a new one altogether. The desire to play a new Call of Duty game at the earliest possible time is insatiable for many players, and Modern Warfare 2 is no exception. Players that partook in the beta on PS5 might have had some issues when trying to enable some of the more advanced settings of the console, though. One such setting that many players were frustrated with was enabling 120 Hz on PS5.

With modern computers and monitors, many players are spoiled with high refresh rates and frames per second nowadays. While the PS5 is a technological marvel, it does have its limitations. However, the console does have the ability to run at a 120 Hz refresh rate, provided players have a capable monitor and are playing a game that supports that refresh rate.

Modern Warfare 2 on the PS5 does support 120 Hz, so players, in theory, should be able to run the game at that refresh rate. Unfortunately, the process to do so isn’t quite as easy as pressing a couple of buttons. Instead, players will need to follow a few steps to get the feature working.

Enabling 120 Hz for MW2 on PS5

For starters, players need to make sure their TV or monitor has the ability to go up to 120 Hz. If the screen is compatible, then follow these steps to get the 120 Hz working for the MW2 beta:

  • Go to the PS5 Settings
  • Click the “Screen and Video” tab
  • Find the option “120 Hz Output” and make sure it’s set to automatic
  • Back out of the Screen and Video tab and click the Saved Data and Game/App settings tab
  • Scroll down to Game Presets and set select Performance Mode over Resolution Mode
  • Scroll up to Saved Data (PS5) in the same tab
  • Click on “Console Storage” and clear any storage for MW2
  • Open up MW2 and you should have 120 Hz active

As of right now, those are the only known ways of getting the 120 Hz setting to activate for the MW2 beta. Perhaps there will be more ways to activate the setting once the full game launches on Oct. 28.
