Destiny 2’s The Witch Queen expansion brought three new Master Lost Sector options into the daily rotation, and of the three, Extraction is probably the toughest.

With Scorn and Hive opponents, few places to take cover during Champion-heavy encounters and a bunch of ever-so-annoying Overload Champions, Extraction can be a hair-pulling affair on Legend difficulty, let alone Master. There are few enemy types that draw as much ire from the community as Scorn, and the seasonal choice to go with submachine guns and auto rifles as anti-Overload weaponry has once again made it remarkably difficult to keep Overload opponents from regenerating their health on higher difficulties.

Luckily, Void 3.0 and some nifty building are here to help. Here’s a look at how to approach the Extraction Master Lost Sector variant and the best loadouts to make it through the newest addition to the daily rotation pool.

What to expect in the Extraction Master Lost Sector

Extraction is located in Quagmire on Savathûn’s Throne World. Like with the other new additions to the Master Lost Sector rotation, you’ll need to complete Extraction regularly in the overworld before attempting its Legend or Master variations. This Lost Sector features both Scorn and Hive combatants as well as Arc and Void shields, and you’ll face Overload and Unstoppable Champions along the way, too.

Champions

  • Overload Scorn Chieftain
  • Unstoppable Hive Ogre

Shields

  • Arc Hive Knights
  • Void Scorn Raiders

Extraction is annoying, and on Master difficulty, it’s abysmal. This Lost Sector is going to be a frustrating slog, with Void-shielded Raiders sniping you from miles away and Overload Scorn Chieftains zapping you from every direction. Add in the need for Arc weapons to deal with Hive Knights and there are very limited loadout options that will allow you to play safe and stay alive.

The middle of the Lost Sector is probably the roughest portion of it, and that’s with two Unstoppable Ogres protecting the Light-bearing Hive Wizard boss. You’ll face three Overload Scorn Chieftains in the second room, which forces you to stand on three plates to crack the runes over the entry to the next area in the Lost Sector.

Here’s a breakdown of the area on Master difficulty.

  • Room 1: Scorn approaching. You’ll face Stalkers, Lurkers (annoying shieldy bois), Void-shielded Raiders and an Overload Scorn Chieftain in this room. The Chieftain spawns in after you clear the first wave of adds, but the main thing to watch out for in this room is Raider fire. Take those out the second you see them, as even with Void resistance or sniper resistance, they can one-shot you from up-close or on the outcropping across from the entrance.
  • Room 2: This is the tough one. You’ll run into several Arc-shielded Hive Knights, an Ogre mini-boss and dozens of Stalkers and Acolytes — and that’s before you step on the first plate to break the seal. If you’re a Hunter, lean into your invisibility and stay on the plates until they’re done, then clear the room. As a Warlock or Titan, step on the plate, jump off, kill adds and Champions, repeat. You don’t want to get overwhelmed while in a position where you can’t divert fire. Overall, you’ll face three Overload Scorn Chieftains, one for each pad, and a bunch of Stalkers spawn every time a plate progresses. Take it slow, and don’t be afraid to take a lap. The only time limit is the 15 minutes until your revives don’t matter anymore.
  • Room 3: Boss time! This is honestly a reprieve, with just two Unstoppable Ogres to worry about, Acolytes and the main boss. Remember you’ll have to clear a bit more of the room than usual as you have to run in to finish off the Ghost of the boss to actually kill it.

Note: On Legend difficulty, the second room will feature one Unstoppable Ogre instead of the Ogre mini-boss and three Corrupted Chieftains with Arc shields instead of three Overload Chieftains. The final room will also have one less Unstoppable Ogre on Legend.

Loadout tips for the Extraction Master Lost Sector

No matter your class, Void 3.0 is the way to go here. The survivability of Devour Warlock, protection of Offensive Bulwark Titan and near-perma-invisibility of a Stylish Executioner Hunter are must-haves to complete the Extraction Lost Sector on Master efficiently. Unlike in most solo content, burst damage isn’t good enough here; the Raiders and Stalkers deal way too much damage, even with resistance mods, to just Thundercrash in.

That said, Warlocks and Hunters will probably have the easiest time here, in large part because they have a bit of burst to go with their Void buffs and debuffs. Just make sure that as a Warlock you’re running Feed the Void and that your Hunter is making the most of the Suppressing Glaive/Stylish Executioner pairing.

The Overload options for this season are spotty and inconsistent at best, especially solo. Needing to empty a mag into a Chieftain for the chance to stun it doesn’t feel great, especially when you’re surrounded by a dozen other enemies. With that said, Osteo Striga, the new exotic SMG, is a great way to go for still dealing damage that can trigger the anti-Overload mod while hidden behind what little cover there is to find.

Unfortunately, the Striga is tucked behind a preorder bonus for Guardians who purchased the Deluxe Edition of The Witch Queen. Players who didn’t do that will likely want to try out Funnelweb in Extraction instead. It can handle Void shields, and the SMG lovingly known as Recluse 2.0 comes with plenty of perks that can help with clearing a room and keeping tabs on Overload Champions.

Titans

  • Class: Ward of Dawn Sentinel with Offensive Bulwark and Bastion aspects
  • Exotic weapon: Osteo Striga or Gjallahorn
  • Exotic armor: Helm of Saint-14 or Doom Fang Pauldron
  • Secondary weapons: The Enigma glaive and Hothead rocket launcher (with Striga) or The Enigma glaive and Multimach CCX submachine gun (with Gjallahorn)
  • Mods: Unstoppable Glaive, Overload Auto/SMG, Thermoshock Plating, Volatile Flow, Well of Tenacity, Melee Wellmaker, Elemental Ordnance, Enduring Wells, Rocket Launcher Scavenger
  • Notes: You’ll want to make sure whatever SMG or assault rifle you pick (if you don’t go with Striga) has Major Spec on it as well. You can’t stop shooting an Overload Champion with your Overload weapon while it’s not stunned, or it’ll start regenerating health, so pick something with a hefty mag size or quick reload speed, too. You could also use the seasonal Overload Grenade mod on Void classes to have another option in a pinch.

Warlocks

  • Class: Cataclysm Nova Bomb with Chaos Accelerant and Feed the Void aspects
  • Exotic weapon: Osteo Striga or Gjallahorn
  • Exotic armor: Nezarec’s Sin or Contraverse Holds
  • Secondary weapons: The Enigma glaive and Hothead rocket launcher (with Striga) or The Enigma glaive and Multimach CCX submachine gun (with Gjallahorn)
  • Mods: Devouring Depths (Warlock-specific), Unstoppable Glaive, Overload Auto/SMG, Thermoshock Plating, Volatile Flow, Well of Tenacity, Melee Wellmaker, Elemental Ordnance, Enduring Wells, Rocket Launcher Scavenger
  • Notes: Devouring Depths gives you a damage boost on your Void Super when it’s cast while Devour is procced, so it’s a great burst damage tool for Warlocks in particular. Use this to gun down the two Unstoppable Ogres in the final boss room or the final boss itself, or use it as a getaway tool to create space in the second room.

Hunters

  • Class: Shadowshot Moebius Quiver with Stylish Executioner and Vanishing Step aspects
  • Exotic weapon: Osteo Striga or Gjallahorn
  • Exotic armor: STOMP-EE5 for easy dodge regen
  • Secondary weapons: The Enigma glaive and Hothead rocket launcher (with Striga) or The Enigma glaive and Multimach CCX submachine gun (with Gjallahorn)
  • Mods: Suppressing Glaive (Hunter-specific), Unstoppable Glaive, Overload Auto/SMG, Thermoshock Plating, Volatile Flow, Well of Tenacity, Melee Wellmaker, Elemental Ordnance, Enduring Wells, Rocket Launcher Scavenger
  • Notes: Suppressing Glaive is a great tool with Stylish Executioner and will allow you to maintain invisibility while using the Glaive to cut through add swarms.
