When you first arrive at New Atlantis in Starfield, you will be surrounded by United Colonies citizens and residential buildings. A part of you might wonder how you can join their ranks and even make a home on the new planet. However, as you will soon find out, you cannot buy property on New Atlantis until you become a full-fledged UC citizen in Starfield.
This fact is reiterated to you when you try to join the United Colonies and when you view the history of the faction as a whole. Naturally, if you’re like me, you immediately tried to find out as much as possible about becoming a citizen so you can have a space to call your own in New Atlantis.
Unfortunately, the process of becoming a UC citizen is not an easy or short one in Starfield, so allow me to walk you through the steps.
Becoming a UC citizen in Starfield
First and foremost, you need to join the UC Vanguard, which can be done by speaking to the commander in the lobby of the MAST building in New Atlantis. Once you’re a member of the Vanguard, one of your first missions will be to investigate a planet in the Tau Ceti system. This leads you on a questline involving the Terramorphs, which are dinosaur-like creatures that have rampaged the Settled Systems before.
Eventually, after meeting several characters and even fighting some Terramorphs, you will start a quest called “Friends Like These.” At the end of this questline, which concludes by speaking to a woman named Elisabeth Macintyre in the MAST building, you will be made a full citizen of the United Colonies. You go through a short induction ceremony and are then given an Activity in your mission log that says to speak to a woman in the realty office of New Atlantis.
Buying property in New Atlantis
The exact Activity will be to “Speak to Zora at the Aphelion Realty Office.” Track this mission in your log and then follow the quest marker to the Aphelion building. Speak to Zora, who is behind the desk in the main lobby, and they will tell you all about purchasing property in New Atlantis.
For me, I was only able to buy a rundown apartment in The Well district for 30,000 credits, as the penthouse that was for sale was already claimed by the government. While you can’t claim the penthouse for yourself now, you will be able to successfully acquire the penthouse by becoming a Class One citizen. This status is bestowed upon you after you complete the United Colonies quest line.
Once you’ve done that, you can visit Aphelion Realty again to claim your penthouse, which is located in the Residential District of New Atlantis. More specifically, it’s on the top floor of the Mercury Tower. The penthouse is a two bedroom, two bathroom unit with two balconies overlooking the city and its surroundings. You can fully decorate the penthouse by using the Decorate panel on the wall near the kitchen.
And those are the two ways to own property in New Atlantis in Starfield. It just comes down to becoming a citizen twice.
