The Stow-on-Side Gym is one of two Gyms in Pokémon Sword and Shield that differ depending on which game you’re playing. If you have Pokémon Sword, this town will have a Fighting-type Gym. If you have Pokémon Shield, it will have a Ghost-type Gym. Regardless of which game you have, though, the Stow-on-Side Gym Mission is the same.

The best Pokémon for the Gym

Depending on which game you have, the Pokémon you want will be different. Against Fighting-type Pokémon, you will want Flying, Psychic, or Fairy-types. Against Ghost, you will want Dark or Ghost-type moves. Granted, Allister’s Gigantamax Pokémon is Gengar, who is also a Poison-type and will be weak to Ground and Psychic-type moves.

Bea

Bea serves as the Stow-on-Side Gym Leader in Pokémon Sword. She has a Level 34 Hitmontop, a Level 34 Pangoro, a Level 35 Sirfetch’d, and a Level 36 Machamp that she will Gigantamax. The best counters to her Pokémon are Fairy-types. Hatenna and its evolutions, in particular, are great against this gym because they are also Psychic-type. Hatenna can be found in the Motostoke Outskirts and various other parts of the Wild Area.

Stow-on-Side

Allister

Allister is Stow-on-Side’s Ghost-type Gym Leader in Pokémon Shield. He has a Level 34 Yamask, a Level 34 Mimikyu, a Level 35 Cursola, and a Level 36 Gengar that he will Gigantamax. Dark-types are the best bet for this Gym. Pangoro is easy to get in the Wild Area and serves as a great counter to Ghost-types. You can also use Ghost-types Pokémon, but be aware that they will also take double damage from enemy Ghost-type moves.

The Gym Mission

The Stow-on-Side Gym mission is almost a mini-game where you will get bumped in different directions by fists while you try to navigate the challenge in a circular cart. You can influence the direction the cart moves by holding the joystick the direction you want to go. Hitting the fists at different angles will also send you in different directions.

In addition to this, there will be several trainers that have either Ghost or Fighting-type Pokémon. You should be able to beat these easily with the counters listed above.

Once you’ve beaten the Stow-on-Side Gym, it will be off to Ballonlea to face the Fairy-type Gym. Stay tuned for more Pokémon news and guides!
