MultiVersus features iconic characters from all across the Warner Bros. many properties, with many more expected to join in the coming months. Considering the vast number of intellectual properties that Warner Bros. owns, the MultiVersus roster has the potential to reach an incredible size, even without taking potential third-party characters into account.

As of now, Player First Games has not announced a set amount of fighters it intends to put into the game. Nevertheless, there’s information out there that can give players an idea of how many characters to expect. Here’s everything to know about how many playable characters MultiVersus could end up having.

Leaked roster size in MultiVersus

Leaks have been a huge part of the MultiVersus experience, going all the way back to Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma’s first roster leak in October of 2021. Since then, dataminers have found files for a large number of previously-unannounced fighters.

Assuming all of the leaked characters end up making the final cut, then MultiVersus would end up with more than 50 playable characters. This would place it around Brawlhalla in terms of roster size, and well above games like Rivals of Aether and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. However, it would still trail behind Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which has 89 playable characters — the most of any platform fighter.

That said, it’s not a sure thing that all of the leaked characters will actually make it into the game. For example, files related to leaked Lord of the Rings characters have been cut or repurposed. Despite this, the leaks provide valuable insights about characters that Player First Games has strongly considered and even taken steps toward adding to the game.

How many characters will be in MultiVersus?

Of course, it’s also possible that MultiVersus will include characters that the developers haven’t yet considered implementing. As a live service game, MultiVersus has much room to grow as developers make continual updates in the coming years.

In particular, game director Tony Huynh has expressed Player First Games’ willingness to add more than 200 characters to the game if the player base supports it. This would blow Smash Ultimate out of the water and even exceed the roster size of MOBAs like League of Legends and Dota 2.

Naturally, it’s also not a given that the MultiVersus community would support such a huge roster. Despite the casual appeal, learning that many match-ups would undoubtedly be a nightmare for competitive players. Still, players should expect the MultiVersus roster to grow substantially in the years to come.
