Dead Island 2’s release date is nearly upon us, with the long-awaited launch coming on April 21, 2023. While the game has taken nearly a decade to complete, players are thrilled to get back into the zombie-killing swing of things.

While no one has played the game in its entirety yet, we do have a concrete estimation of how long an average playthrough will take. This tidbit comes from the art director, Adam Olsson, at Dambuster Studios, the developers of Dead Island 2. According to Olsson, who spoke to Wccftech in an interview, the average playtime to beat Dead Island 2 is “around 20 hours.”
This lines up with what players have come to expect from the series. The original Dead Island took roughly 18 hours to beat, so a 20-hour campaign is right on brand. Olsson went on to say that the 20 hour playtime involves players completing every main story mission and taking part in a few side quests as well. This means players can beat the game in far less than 20 hours if they speed through the main story.
However, players can also spend much longer in Dead Island 2 if they want to go for a completionist run, which involves completing every bit of content available.
Regardless of how you play Dead Island, you will be getting your money’s worth with over a dozen hours of playtime before you see the end credits.
