While Baldur’s Gate 3 has technically been released for a few years, it’s finally coming out of early access in 2023. The full launch of the RPG will arrive on Aug. 31 after players have spent years playing the same bit of content in the game’s early access build.
For those that played the early access build, you will know that there is currently about 25 hours of content available in Baldur’s Gate 3 (for one playthrough). This has left players to wonder exactly how long Baldur’s Gate 3 will be in its full release and how many hours it will take to beat it.
Of course, in a game like Baldur’s Gate 3, the amount of time players spend in it is completely up to them. There will likely be a handful of endings for all of the available classes, which can provide hundreds of hours of replayability for players. However, if we’re strictly talking about a single playthrough, then we have a solid idea of how long it will take to beat Baldur’s Gate 3.
How long to beat Baldur’s Gate 3
In the early access build of the game, players can play up until the end of the first act. While we don’t know how many acts there will be in Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s safe to assume that there will be at least a few more. This likely puts Baldur’s Gate 3’s total playtime for a single playthrough at roughly 100 hours, provided that players also complete some side quests and take full part in character and party progression.
This is a huge jump for the Baldur’s Gate franchise, as the first two games in the series only took about 50 hours to beat. However, the developer of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios, is no stranger to 100-hour campaigns. The studio’s last title, Divinity Original Sin 2, also took anywhere from 85-100 hours to complete a single playthrough.
If we’re going strictly by the early access build, then players are in for quite the time commitment. From side quests to places to explore to meeting new characters to simply completing main story quests, there will be shortage of content to consume in Baldur’s Gate 3.
