IEM Sydney is this weekend and our two Aussie teams are qualified.
Aussie teams Grayhound and Chiefs join the fight for IEM Sydney this weekend. These Aussies will be up against world-class powerhouse teams like Liquid and FaZe Clan. IEM Sydney will be one of the biggest esports tournaments in Australia. With a $250,000 US prize pool, Qudos Bank Arena will be swimming with fans.
The Chiefs Esports Club (Chiefs) defeated Breakaway Esports in last week’s IEM Sydney Derby. The Derby was a chance for Aussies to compete on the global IEM stage. The winner received a direct spot for IEM Sydney this weekend. Along with the Chiefs, Grayhound Gaming also secured their place at IEM Sydney. Grayhound qualified for the tournament via their win in the AU & NZ Championship. Grayhound claimed their second consecutive victory for this competition and are one of the favorites for IEM Sydney.
Both Aussie teams are very excited about competing against the best CS:GO players in the world. Tyler “Tucks” Reilly, captain of the Chiefs CS:GO team, is very pleased to have qualified:
We’re happy to have qualified for IEM Sydney again – this team is very special, and we’re feeling confident going into the tournament. We’ll be putting in a lot of work to give ourselves the best chance of making the stage in Qudos Bank Arena this May.
Sixteen CS:GO teams will compete across three days of gaming at Qudos Bank Arena. They’ll play in front of thousands of fans with millions tuning in online.
Grayhound and Chiefs aren’t the only attractions
Aside from watching some Aussie favorites, attendees to IEM Sydney have plenty of other fun activities. The Caches will be playing once again. Plus tech enthusiasts can get set for one of Australia’s biggest tech showcases. There are over 20 booths showcasing the latest products from Razer to MSI, Intel, and more. Fans will also be able to watch the Overwatch Contenders Australia 2019 Season 1 Finals. The finals will take place on the Saturday and Sunday of IEM Sydney. The Sydney Drop Bears, Melbourne Mavericks, ORDER, and Blank Esports will battle it out for the $100,000 US prize pool. The winners will take on the Pacific region’s best Overwatch players later in May.
