TSM has announced the launch of a charity NFT auction to raise funds for non-profit Girls Who Code, which aims to increase the number of women in tech. Involving two recent partners of the esports organization, the auction will take place on the cryptocurrency exchange website, FTX US, exhibiting a newly minted ‘Aurorian’ NFT from the blockchain-based game Aurory.

Tarika Barrett, CEO of Girls Who Code, commented on the auction:

“We are thrilled to be partnering with TSM FTX on this initiative. We are reaching girls — cis and trans — and nonbinary students around the world, and are on track to close the gender gap in new entry-level tech jobs by 2030. TSM’s partnership and the proceeds from this auction are a critical part of accomplishing our mission and will help build future opportunities for mentorship, leadership and skills training for the next generation of leaders.”

The origins of Girls Who Code

Girls Who Code helps support young women with the skills and tools needed to pursue a career in tech through a variety of computer science programs. Since being founded by Reshma Saujani in 2012, the non-profit organization has served 450,000 girls globally, from historically underrepresented and low-income groups. There are currently over 8500 Girls Who Code clubs, which run programming, web design and robotics programs during the academic year.

Walter Wang, TSM FTX Head of Operations, added:

“When Aurory first approached us about collaborating on our first NFTs, we knew we had a great opportunity to pay it forward and give back to our community. A core part of our mission at TSM is to drive education, diversity and inclusion forward, and there is no better partner for that mission than Girls Who Code. We are honored for the opportunity to help raise funds for this incredible organization who share our commitment and passion for driving positive and necessary change forward within the tech ecosystem.”

The Aurorian NFT auction will take place between November 8-9, with the final raised amount to be announced on the TSM Twitter page. Individuals interested in participating in the auction need to register with FTX US and complete the Know Your Client (KYC) process.
