G2 Esports has claimed victory in the 2020 LEC Spring Split Finals. In three short matches against Fnatic, they stomped every game with a dominating performance. Although the teams weren’t in front of a live audience, they received support from their fans around the globe. This win counts as their seventh LEC championship.
The first two games proved that G2 had prepared themselves to take on the 2018 LEC champions. In the first game, Mid Laner Luka “Perkz” Perkovic as Azir helped give his team mid lane priority as they quickly melted their first Baron. Not only did they have complete control of the map throughout the game, but Fnatic was no match for their ADC Rasmus “Caps” Winther as Kogmaw. He contributed to G2’s overall 16 kills as he pushed through their team fights.
The second game proved to be an even better sweep for G2, as Caps went 7-0 with the help of his support Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle as Lulu, who went 0-16. Fnatic tried fighting back for the third game, as they attempted to push the game past 33 minutes. Their Mid Laner, Tim “Nemesis” Lipovšek as Azir, contributed the most kills, but it was still not enough to bring down G2. Mikyx’s disengages as Janna also contributed to G2’s win, as he allowed Caps to dominate team fights.
This final felt very special for me, as I was playing a new role and got to see a very different view on how League works.

Effortless win
Ultimately, these three games showed the true potential of G2, even though they started to slightly fall off mid-season. Although they were almost neck-and-neck with Fnatic, they showed themselves as a strong team with great communication and control over the finals games of the Spring Split.
Their victory added on to their history of wins in the LEC. They will now head to this year’s Mid-Season Invitational, hoping to keep their win from last year. Fnatic, on the other hand, has plenty of reflection to do as they prepare for the 2020 Summer Split.
