G2 Esports were swiftly knocked out of the VALORANT Champions Tour Europe, Middle East and Africa Champions 1 closed qualifiers on Wednesday. In the wake of the EU VCT defeat, some called for the return of their young fragger Wassim “keloqz” Cista, who was riding their bench after the offseason. G2 player Auni “AvovA” Chahade even made a meme in a now-deleted tweet about missing the player on the roster.

In a recent announcement from the team, keloqz will rejoin the squad in the place of their main Duelist Oscar “mixwell” Cañellas Colocho. Mixwell returned to the main Duelist role in late 2021 after switching to Controllers half-way through the season. Fans last saw keloqz at the Red Bull Home Ground #2 tournament playing Breach, Reyna and Jett.

G2 were one of the first two teams eliminated in the EU VCT closed qualifier, after losing to both Team Vitality and Alliance. Because of their low placement at the event, the team will have to battle through the open qualifier to have another chance at making the EU VCT league. The team was one of the four invited teams to the closed qualifier and did not have to play in the open system this week.

Reaction around the move have been positive, as many wanted to see the teenage Frenchman compete again, instead of remaining inactive on the G2 roster.

In the offseason, G2 added Aaro “hoody” Peltokangas and Johan “Meddo” Renbjörk Lundborg to bolster their 2022 roster. This left keloqz out of the main team. In his five game at the closed qualifier, mixwell played Jett on four maps and Raze on one. He averaged a 1 Kill/Death ratio on Jett and a 0.16 first kill per round rate.

Fans can see keloqz competing with G2 again in the EU VCT open qualifier in its final week starting on Jan 17.
