World Cup champions France proved they are not only the best on the real pitch but on the virtual pitch too on Sunday. In the final of the first ever FIFA eNations Cup, they defeated other favorite Argentina. Twenty different countries from all six confederations were entered into the tournament, but French players Corentin “Maestro” Thullier and Lucas “DaXe” Cuillerier came away with the $40,000 prize.
The competition was hosted by London and streamed live on the official FIFA YouTube channel as well as on Twitch. England had high hopes for the tournament; the English had the best player in the world on Xbox One on their team. Unfortunately, due to the 2v2 format, England was not able to go as far as they wanted, even though they beat eventual winners France in the opening rounds.
All the players donned their national team shirts as they competed on both PlayStation and Xbox One. The format involved one-on-one FIFA 19 matches before a final two vs. two. Teams were divided into four groups of five before the tense knockout stage.

After their FIFA eNations Cup victory, Thullier said: “DaXe and I had some really tough matches over the two days, so to come away as champions and the title of the best eFootball nation in the world is really special.” Christian Volk, who is FIFA’s Director of eFootball and Gaming, said the eNations Cup was “another step in the professionalization of the virtual game.”
Volk described the occasion: “The FIFA eNations Cup has presented an important stepping stone to further grow the eFootball ecosystem, offering member associations with the chance to run their own national selection process and qualifying events.”
The current FIFA eWorld Cup champion, Mosaad Aldossary (MsDossary7), was playing in the tournament. Aldossary represented Saudi Arabia and was beaten by Thullier in the opening matches of the cup. The French players not only won bragging rights but also won 1,500 FIFA 19 Global Series Points that will go towards qualifications for this year’s FIFA eWorld Cup.
The top 60 competitors on the final FIFA 19 Global Series Points leaderboard will qualify for the playoffs in June. The 32 that are the best will then go on to the FIFA eWorld Cup finals.
