At 1 PM ET this afternoon, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta become pre-loadable on PlayStation 4+5. This means that any player who digitally pre-ordered the game or those with a beta code can download the beta application on their system. As a result, players who have downloaded it can access some different aspects of the beta. While the full-fledged beta isn’t available yet as the servers aren’t turned on, some players were able to get into the settings menu for MW2. In these settings, players on PlayStation 4+5 were able to see that Modern Warfare 2 currently has a field of view (FOV) slider.

An FOV slider for consoles has been one of the biggest requests from the community since Warzone launched in 2020. Modern Warfare 2019 actually launched with a console FOV slider, but Warzone did not. Neither did the subsequent main series games in Black Ops Cold War or Vanguard. Of course, the PC version of the games did come with the FOV setting, giving those players a distinct advantage over their console opponents. Regardless, Infinity Ward has listened to the community and given them what they want in MW2; on last and current-gen consoles to boot. Fans have confirmed that the PS4 and PS5 versions of the beta have an FOV slider.

The FOV setting for the beta is found in the “Graphics” tab of the settings. Only certain players have been able to access this menu, though. Below, players can see a clear image of thefield of view setting.

The field of view is set to 80 by default, but can go all the way up to 120 and be reduced down to 60. There’s also a 3rd Person field of view setting, which is currently believed to only be used when driving vehicles in multiplayer.

This is an enormous step for the console community, as they’ve been playing at a huge disadvantage in multiplayer compared to PC players for the last two years. While it’s not confirmed that Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S will also have this feature, it seems unlikely that those consoles wouldn’t receive a field of view slider as well. It also still remains to be seen whether the console FOV slider will make its way to Warzone 2 when it launches later this year.

Activision could clear some of this confusion at Call of Duty Next tomorrow, where Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer and Warzone 2 will be on full display.
