At this point it’s pretty obvious that Fortnite is the greatest thing on the face of the earth. If you don’t know what I’m talking about then I just have one question for you… Where have you been? Like most games, updates are always on the horizon to make the game better and Fortnite has had a history with upping the anti with its updates and its new update did just that.

Now, let’s dive into the new updates brought to you by Fortnite.

Jetpacks

One of the most talked about possibilities in Fortnite was the addition of jetpacks and now they are finally here. The sad news is that they won’t be around for too long. So make sure you take advantage of them right now. The jetpacks will take up a spot in your inventory as a “backpack” and you can only take one of them at a time. To access the jetpacks, all you need to do is jump and you will be able to glide for a limited time before re-charging. The re-charge begins automatically once you’re not using the jetpack, so thats pretty useful.  Once you have used up all the fuel for the jetpack, it will explode. Jetpacks bring a whole new aspect to the game, as now engaging in a battle becomes a little more difficult. Players are now able to get away faster, like the moon rocks, but this may be something that will be implemented for good moving forward.

Storm Tracker

The Eye of the Storm item wasn’t actually supposed to be in the game at all. So this really is a limited time offer. Unveiled in the patch notes this past Tuesday, the “eye of the storm tracker” allows players to get ahead of the storm. Clearly this is just an idea that Fortnite was trying out but it raises the question if it is really necessary? This item allows players to get an advantage of where the next safe zone will be. This may be a good or bad thing, depending on where you stand. For one this could be an interesting tactic for new players, who may use this as a guide for how to operate in the game. On the other hand, it takes away the competitive nature of the game. Since the item wasn’t supposed to be in the game at all, there’s a good chance it is removed from the game already. Hopefully some of you got the chance to use it, and if you did, let us know what it was like.

Solo Showdown Mode

This past week, Fortnite unveiled the results of the new “Solo Showdown” mode. The mode released last week, allowed players to play against each other in 5o qualifying matches. Every match you played in earned you points in the leaderboards. Obviously the goal was to get the most points. First place would receive 100 points, second 94 and third 91 and so on. Players who finished between 76th and 100th place would receive 25 points. The winner of the leaderboard would be awarded 50,000 V-Bucks. Rewards were also given out to the top 100 players and players who completed the 50 games. For many, this mode was a glimpse at what could be for Fortnite. The mode only lasted four days. Far too short for any mode in my opinion. The mode also had it’s faults, with rewards not going through and some outrageous top scores. Since the mode was only available for four days, players had to literally binge and try to get 50 games in this short amount of time. Fortnite could look into the possibility of making this mode last longer. All I know is that this mode put players to the test. Making every game more challenging, as your place actually counted towards something. Hopefully this mode has some work done to it, because it is an interesting concept.

Solid Gold V2

The new update also saw the return of a previous mode, “Solid Gold.” For people who don’t know, this mode allows players to only use weapons of “legendary” status (gold colour.)

Fortnite also made minor adjustments to the drop rates for weapons. For example, players may find the Hand Cannon and Suppressed Pistols as floor loot as well as updated drop rates for weapons, consumables have received an increase in drop rates. This includes: Chug Jugs, Slurp Juice, Launchpads, Campfires and all special grenades. On top of that, Spike Traps, Bandages and normal Grenades drop rates have decreased.

Solid Gold is a great mode for players who just want to use some great weapons. Gone are the days of praying to a higher power to find a gold scar. Now you can find one virtually every round. Like most modes in Fortnite, this will only be around for a short period of time. So go out there, skip some school and play the mode before it’s too late!
