The Season 5, Week 2 challenges for Fortnite are now live, and we’ve prepared a handy guide to help you get through them quickly. Though the season has just begun, it’s never too early to begin the grind toward level 100, and these Battle Star and XP bonuses should help. This week’s challenges, which leaked a few days ago, are as follows:

Free Challenges

  • Deal damage with Assault Rifles to opponents (0/1,000)
  • Search Ammo Boxes in a single match (0/7)
  • Eliminate opponents in Paradise Palms (0/3) – Hard

Battle Pass Challenges

  • Score a basket on different hoops (0/5)
  • Search Chests in Loot Lake (0/7)
  • Search between an oasis, rock archway, and dinosaurs – Hard
  • Sniper Rifle Eliminations (0/2)– Hard

Complete any four of these challenges to earn an additional 5,000 season XP. In order to receive the XP bonus, the challenges have to be from the same week. So if you complete two challenges from last week’s list and two from this week, it still does not meet the necessary conditions. As such, this means players without the Battle Pass are ineligible for the XP bonus, as they only have three free challenges each week.

Also, remember that completing all of a week’s challenges advances your progress for the Road Trip seasonal challenges. Once these seven challenges are complete, players unlock a new loading screen. While this in itself may not sound terribly exciting, the unlockable loading screens each have a hidden Battle Star located somewhere on them. If players travel to that location in-game, they earn an additional five Battle Stars.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. First, let’s go over this week’s challenges.

Gearing up for battle: Looting Ammo Boxes

One of the easier challenges this week is to Search seven Ammo Boxes in a single match. For new players, Ammo Boxes are small, green, and metallic, and can be searched for random ammo. These spawn in many different locations, though most commonly in structures such as houses. To achieve this quickly, locations such as Pleasant Park are ideal, if you can survive the other players. When searching houses, be sure to check behind staircases on the ground floor, as boxes are often hidden behind the steps. Furthermore, in top-floor bedrooms, destroy the furniture to find a hidden box behind the bedframe. All of this ammo will be useful as you attempt the next two challenges, which are both combat-oriented.

Combat challenges for Season 5, Week 2

Similar to last week’s SMG challenge, this week’s first objective is to deal 1,000 damage with Assault Rifles to opponents. Again, players have a number of options to choose from for this challenge. The standard assault rifle is available in grey, green, and blue rarities, as is the burst rifle. More effective, however, are the purple and gold SCAR, or the purple and gold FAMAS burst rifle. Either way, this challenge is fairly easy. Even if you’re not achieving eliminations, simply deal damage to opponents with any of these weapons and the challenge will pop after a few matches, earning you five Battle Stars.

Once again, this week’s third free challenge is focused on eliminations. Unlike last week, which tasked players with using specific weapons, this week’s challenge is to eliminate opponents in Paradise Palms. A new location added with patch 5.0, this busy city is a metropolitan oasis in the middle of the arid desert. This spot has been a hotbed of activity ever since Season 5 began, so players should have no difficulty finding targets. Eliminating them, however, might be tricky. To better your chances, consider dropping at the scrapyard that is to the southeast of Paradise Palms. It’s far enough to protect you from immediate elimination, yet close enough for you to gear up and quickly move in to your target location. Alternatively, for those who thrive on confrontation, the central skyscraper is also rife with loot, but be prepared for a showdown.

Shooting hoops: A creative Season 5 challenge

Moving on to the Battle Pass challenges, the first is a creative use of one of the season’s less prominent additions. Aside from the changes to the map and inclusion of new vehicles, Season 5 also introduced “toys.” These items act like emotes, stickers, and sprays, and share the same menu wheel as them. However, unlike those actions, toys generate a three-dimensional physical object within the game world. In order to complete the first Battle Pass challenge, Score a basket on different hoops, players need to use the new basketball toy. This enables their character to toss a ball. For locations on basketball courts around the map, consult the guide above. We’ve found that standing at the half-court line directly in front of the hoop results in a consistent basket.

Searching chests and sniping heads

Two of the other Battle Pass challenges are nice and straightforward. First, players need to Search Chests in Loot Lake. The requirement is seven, but these don’t have to be in the same match. If you’re struggling to find chests, the house in the center of the lake typically has a few. Be sure to check the cave under the house! If that’s too busy of a location for you, the factories on the western shore of the lake usually have 1-2 chests each, as well as another one outside behind a chain-link fence.

Meanwhile, the combat challenge for this week is a bit tricky, as it requires Sniper rifle eliminations. The sniper rifle is unique within the context of Fortnite as it is one of few weapons that calculates bullet drop. Other weapons rely on RNG and bloom, but the sniper’s bullets fly straight and true, albeit with a greater drop the further they travel. However, something players may not realize is that the Hunting Rifle also counts toward this challenge. If you prefer the faster speed of the rifle and won’t miss the scope, this is a useful alternative.

Wrapping up Week 1’s challenges

As always, the last Battle Pass challenge involves a treasure hunt. This time, players must Search between an oasis, rock archway, and dinosaurs. Based on the terminology used, this week’s hidden Battle Star is clearly somewhere within the desert biome. To skip the hunt, watch the video above to see directly where to go.

That’s it! As a reminder, complete any four challenges to get an extra 5,000 season XP, and complete them all for an exclusive loading screen.
