Fnatic have announced their entrance into the competitive Valorant scene by picking up the European team SUMN FC.
The team first formed in early August of last year and has been dominant throughout several lower-tiered tournaments in the Valorant scene. However, when SUMN FC advanced to the Valorant Contenders Cup finals over FunPlus Phoenix they became a topic of conversation. Fnatic picking up this squad also lines up with their announcement in August that they didn’t plan to field a Valorant team until 2021 at the earliest, and they are no longer one of the only top European organizations without a roster in the game.
Fnatic signs a five-man roster
Several organizations pieced together competitive Valorant rosters from players across different games and backgrounds, which has produced mixed results. But Valorant First Strike turned out to be the perfect showcase for an amateur team like SUMN FC to show off their skill and coordination. They defeated Purple Cobras 2-0 before facing off against FunPlus Phoenix in the Semifinals and winning 2-1. SUMN FC was the only team without an organization to reach the final four, but they ultimately fell short to Team Heretics.

SUMN FC have played with their current roster since October, which includes Jake “Boaster” Howlett, Domagoj “Doma” Fancev, James “Mistic” Orfila, Muhammad “Moe40” Hariff, Kostas “tsack” Theodoropoulos and coach Jacob “mini” Harris. Since Fnatic signed the whole roster and their head coach, the team should theoretically have an easy transition from amateur to pro play.
