EA Sports and FIFA have announced a brand new expanded FIFA 22 esports program. In this season, FIFA 22 competitive gaming will be open to players in more than 70 countries. The FIFA 22 esports program will feature both 1v1 and 2v2 tournaments with regional and global events throughout the season.
Vice President of EA Sports Competitive Gaming, Brent Koning, said this when discussing the program. “FIFA possesses the pivotal platform for football fans around the world to insert themselves into their own sports story. In partnership with FIFA, the mainstream appeal of esports is evident.”
Roadmap for FIFA 22 esports
The FIFA 22 esports program will have three main events occurring throughout the season. These events are the FIFA Club Series, FIFAe Nation series and the Global series, on the road to the 2022 FIFAe World Cup.
Moreover, the FIFA 22 Global Series qualifications will kick off on Nov. 27, with the normal 1v1 format, as online tournaments across 10 global regions. Additionally, more than 30 regional leagues will be providing tournaments where players can earn points. The eMLS, CONMEBOL Libertadores, eLigue 1, UEFA eChampions League and many others will continue in FIFA 22 esports.
The debut of 2v2 FIFA Ultimate Team for Club Series competition
This year, the FIFAe Club Series will feature a 2v2 tournament beginning with the qualifiers stage in November. The tournament will include the new FUT team of the year, and season cups, on the road to the FIFAe Club World Cup 2022. Players can begin to register for this competition from Oct. 5, on FIFA GG.
Furthermore, the FIFAe Nation Series will continue with its 2v2 format and all nations will play online qualifiers as the season progresses. Aside from these events, there will be cross events between football stars, FIFA professional players and EA representatives. The hope is that these events will help boost viewership numbers and charity donations. On Oct. 21, EA will also host a FIFA 22 challenge featuring ambassadors representing Adidas and EA Sports. FIFA Ultimate Team fans can also expect a special surprise in October.
The FIFA esports scene has witnessed a cancellation of two World Cup events due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year’s expansion, and plans for the 2022 FIFAe World Cup, signify a return to normalcy for competitive FIFA. Also, the FIFA 22 esports program features more 2v2 events this time out.
FIFA 22 is officially available for all players from Oct. 1. However, players who pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition of FIFA 22 got access to the game from Sept. 27.
