European Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CSGO) team FaZe Clan takes home the IEM New York EU championship title. On October 11, FaZe faced off versus OG in a best-of-five online match. FaZe Clan, ranked 17 in the world, claim the $140,000 prize. The victory breaks a streak of tournament losses for FaZe, having not won an event since BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen 2019.

OG fans find consolation because the team finally reached a grand final series for the first time in 10 months. Unfortunately, Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen and co. fell to FaZe 3-0 after a competitive series. FaZe showed a consistent performance throughout IEM New York EU, defeating Heroic, BIG, and Vitality along the way.

FaZe’s dominant performance.

The grand final kicked off with a highly competitive match on Mirage — FaZe’s map pick. OG stormed the gates with a monstrous 6-1 lead on map 1. However, after a nail baiting 3v5, Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and co. found themselves back in action. At the end of the half, FaZe finished with a 1 round deficit — 7-8. However, the champions hit the ground running with a swift pistol round win in the second half. In the final round, Markus “Kjaerbye” Kjærbye found himself a spicy quad kill and ended the series in overtime 22-20.

On Inferno, Marcelo “coldzera” David carried his team through the first half. OG couldn’t find their footing and found themselves down 1-10. Despite FaZe’s obvious dominance on Inferno, OG was able to scrape together a few rounds. However, they were unable to turn the tides and lost map 2 5-16.

Dust 2 showed OG still had a little bit of fight left in them. They held a strong lead during the first half. FaZe broke their momentum on round 4, showcasing their impressive riflers. The first half ended with OG barely leading at 8-7. After swapping sides, FaZe won the pistol round, thanks to NiKo’s impressive pistol shots. The two teams battled back and forth, but FaZe ultimately brought home the victory. NiKo’s awesome 1v1 clutch ended the series 16-11.

The next time we’ll see FaZe Clan perform is in 4 days during DreamHack Open Fall 2020. Stay tuned to Daily Esports for FaZe Clan news!
