As Riptide 2022 happens this weekend, Super Smash Bros. fans can look forward to a concurrent shadow major in the same venue for Super Smash Bros. Brawl mod Project+. This time around, the tournament will also feature HewDraw Remix, a Project+-esque mod for Smash Ultimate.
With nearly 100 players already registered, this is slated to be the biggest Project+ event of the year so far. In addition, the four highest-placing competitors will qualify for next year’s major invitational, The Project M Theatre 2. Here’s everything viewers need to know about Undertow 2022 before it kicks off this weekend.

Project+ players to watch
Michael “techboy” Leleniewski will be the favorite to take home the gold at Undertow 2022. At this year’s Project M Theatre, he swept through the likes of Kevin “The Doctor” Ascate, Johnny Sosa and Xayya “ThundeRzReiGN” Thammavongsa en route to first place. In addition, he won Blacklisted 6 last November. Ironically, the biggest stain on techboy’s resume from the past year was his 17th-place finish at the first Undertow.
The biggest potential threat to techboy is Noah “Nogh” Sundook, who defeated him 3-0 in pools at The Project M Theatre. While techboy didn’t have to rematch Nogh in the main bracket at that invitational, the two of them could potentially face off again this weekend.
Meanwhile, Zachary “Lunchables” Sain is entering this tournament following a streak of relative inactivity; his last Project+ major was last year’s Undertow. Even so, he made a deep run to second place at that tournament. As a result, Lunchables could very well make a similarly deep run at Undertow 2022.
How to watch Undertow 2022
Heartswaptv will host Undertow 2022 this coming Saturday and Sunday. The tournament will start with a Project+ Doubles bracket at 11 a.m. ET on Saturday. Later, Singles pools for both Project+ and HDR will begin at 2 p.m. Then, the top cut of HDR will happen at 6 p.m., followed by a Project+ amateur bracket at 7:30 p.m.
Top eight of the HDR Singles bracket is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Afterward, the tournament will conclude with the top cut of the Project+ Singles bracket. This final stretch of the tournament will begin at 2 p.m.
