With the Overwatch League 2022 season over, head of the league Sean Miller has revealed all upcoming critical dates in the 2022-23 offseason. This includes free agency, when teams have to have a minimum of five or six players signed, and more. Due to some of these dates, teams have already announced a lot of roster movements, with mostly players entering free agency.

Important dates in the OWL 2022-23 offseason
Starting on Nov. 5, 2022, the day after the Overwatch League 2022 Grand Finals, the 2022-23 offseason truly began. That also was the same day that teams could start submitting player trades, which would be overseen for league approval.
Not too long after, on Nov. 11, teams would have to decide if they would extend player contracts or let them go into free agency. Now, this doesn’t mean that players that didn’t extend can’t return to their original team. Discussions can occur and players can come back but on new contracts. Nov. 18 will be the first true day of free agency, while players can officially sign with new teams on Nov. 19.
Then, the next important date is on Jan. 16, 2023 — this is the date teams must have five players signed. Later on in the year, teams must have six players signed, but that date isn’t until Mar. 1, 2023.
Contract and team rules
Due to league rules, this 2023 season allows players who were born on or before Aug. 31, 2005, to sign contracts. Plus, the minimum salary for a player contract has increased to compensate for inflation. Now, the minimum salary is $54,249 USD. Also, teams are required to have six players on season-long contracts at all times over the season. Teams can have up to a maximum of 12 players on their roster.
One of the newest changes involving contracts has to do with the 30-day contracts that were common in previous years. While they still remain as an option, teams must have six season-long contracts to do so. Then, when the 30-day contract is over, the player becomes a free agent, available to all teams. Unlike previous years, teams who sign 30-day contract players do not have the ability to extend it without competition. On top of all of that, teams are only allowed to sign one 30-day contract player per season.
Last but not least, two-way players who play in both the league and Contenders remain. Teams can only carry up to four two-way players on their Contenders rosters.
