Edward Gaming’s players get more than bragging rights and a Summoner’s Cup for winning Worlds 2021; the players who brought EDG their first-ever League of Legends World Championship get to pick in-game characters to get custom Worlds skins, too.
It’s a small thing, but a memorable one. EDG’s Li “Flandre” Xuan-Jun, Zhao “Jiejie” Li-Jie, Lee “Scout” Ye-chan, Park “Viper” Do-hyeon and Tian “Meiko” Ye will be immortalized in-game. Developer Riot Games typically reveals the Worlds skins in the spring following the world championship.
The EDG Worlds skins are decided by each player. Each player picks a champion to don the EDG mantle, and Riot then creates a customized Worlds skin that harkens to both EDG and the player themselves.
There are plenty of other things to worry about after hoisting the Summoner’s Cup and what was likely the best Worlds finals in history, but Edward Gaming’s core had a few ideas for who they wanted to pick for their Worlds skins following the championship.
EDG certainly earned the Worlds title and the skin line; they had the longest-possible path to the world championship, with five-game series in the quarterfinals, semifinals and final. Those victories over Chinese rival Royal Never Give Up in the quarters, a semifinal banger against Gen.G and the second-ever five-game series in Worlds history on Saturday gave China its third world championship in four years.
With that out of the way, here are the potential champion picks each starter on Edward Gaming gave after their Worlds final win. Each picked a champion that lines up with their position on Summoner’s Rift.
- Li “Flandre” Xuan-Jun, top laner: Graves or Jayce
- Zhao “Jiejie” Li-Jie, jungler: Champs that “represent him” (not sure who yet)
- Lee “Scout” Ye-chan, mid laner: Champs he played during the final (not sure who yet)
- Park “Viper” Do-hyeon, AD carry: Ezreal, Aphelios or Lucian
- Tian “Meiko” Ye, support: Lulu, Yuumi or Nami
DWG KIA, the 2020 world champions and Worlds 2021 runner-up, picked Jhin, Kennen, Leona, Nidalee and Twisted Fate as their champions to get custom skins last year.
