Hogwarts Legacy has undoubtedly filled every Potterhead’s dream upon its release. The game features many tiny details that fans would most likely remember from the fantastic franchise. If you haven’t caught any of those yet, don’t worry. Here are 15 Easter Eggs to be on the lookout for.

Harry Potter Iconic Tune (Hedwig’s Theme)

Undoubtedly, the iconic “Hedwig’s theme” will find its way into the game. The developers crafted a specific quest to get players to play Hedwig’s Theme using bells in the ruins. The quest is called Solved by the Bell, which is uncovering the mysteries of a Musical Map hidden in Henrietta’s Hideaway. You’ll surely be filled with nostalgia upon finishing this quest.

Follow the Butterflies

Upon finishing the Jackdaw’s Rest quest, players will find Clementine Willardsey with a sidequest called Follow the Butterflies. This quest title references Ron Weasley’s iconic line in Harry Potter: The Chamber of Secrets. In the scene, Ron complained about Hagrid’s advice to “Follow the spiders,” Ron instead mentioned, “Why can’t it be follow the butterflies?”

Transfiguration spell icon

Another Easter Egg from Ron Weasley himself the Transfiguration Spell Icon. If you look closely at the Transfiguration Spell Icon, you’ll see it is a cup with a rat’s tail. This Easter Egg references the scene in Sorcerer’s Stone wherein Ron tries to transform his rat into a cup but ultimately fails and combines them into a rat cup.

The Weasley twins reference

In Hogsmeade, you can find Zonko’s Joke Shop, the go-to store for all pranksters and tricksters. The store is filled to the brim with interactive items, and it’s a delight to visit it even though you can’t buy anything from there. There are instances wherein you’ll see twins with red hair while visiting the shop, and it’s an obvious callback to the infamous Weasley Twins, Fred, and George Weasley. It goes on to say that this might be a subtle nod to Fred and George opening their own jokes shop called Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes.

Polyjuice Potion station

One of the weirdest things we found while playing Hogwarts Legacy is the potion station in the 2nd-floor girl’s bathroom. While initially, we thought that we could brew potions there after we took the potion class, we failed to recognize that it’s a reference to the Polyjuice scene in the movies where Hermione, Harry, and Ron concocted a potion in the bathroom (Chamber of Secrets) to transform themselves into Slytherin members. The scene continues with Hermione transforming into a human cat because of her mistake while brewing the potion.

One-Eyed Witch passageway

The One-Eyed Witch tunnelway is an infamous hidden passage in Hogwarts that leads to a cellar of HoneyDukes in Hogsmeade. Harry learned about this passageway when Fred and George gave him the Marauder’s Map. Even better, you can utilize this passageway when you take on Garreth Weasley’s quest, which indicates that it is a family secret, passed down to the next generation.

Harry Potter’s iconic scar

When we were a child, we used to draw Harry Potter’s iconic lightning scar on our foreheads to tell ourselves that we were the “Boy Who Lived?” Hogwarts Legacy didn’t skip out on this reference, as when you’re trying to learn the unforgivable curse, “Avada Kedavra.” The developers used Harry Potter’s lightning scar as the spell shape you must draw while learning the unforgivable curse.

The Gaunt family

Ominis Gaunt is one of the most likable characters in Hogwarts Legacy. If you asked yourself, “Why does the Gaunt family name sound familiar?” Well, it’s because Voldemort’s grandfather is Marvolo Gaunt, meaning that he is a direct descendant of Salazar Slytherin. It would also mean that Voldemort is possibly a direct descendant of Ominis Gaunt, which is daunting considering that Ominis is a kind-hearted Slytherin.

Basilisk reference

Continuing with the Slytherin easter eggs, a note from Salazar Slytherin himself can be found in the game. The note says that Salazar placed a creature into a deep sleep in its chamber (Chamber of Secrets,) which only a pure-blooded Slytherin can only awaken. This refers to the Basilisk within the Chamber of Secrets, who awakened when Tom Riddle’s shade (from a Horcrux) came into contact with the beast.

Chamber of Secrets entrance

In line with the previous entry, The Chamber of Secrets is also in the Hogwarts Legacy. You’ll be able to find a women’s bathroom in the Slytherin dungeon. Entering the said bathroom, the iconic faucets will greet you, which is the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets. You can see a snake on one of the faucets, which requires a Parseltongue mumbling the word open to enter the chamber. Naturally, you can’t access it—but it’s neat how consistent things are in this game!

Newt Scamander reference

While the Hogwarts Legacy is set in the Harry Potter world, we must not forget about Fantastic Beasts. If you go onto the hill in the northeast section of Hogsmeade, you’ll find Newt Scamander’s Niffler and Mandrake (Plushie version) having a tea party. While you can’t sit down with them and join the party yourself, you can at least grab a cup of tea from them.

Portrait of Richard Harris, the first Dumbledore

Hogwarts Legacy nodded to the first-ever actor (and the only one who deserves it) to conjure the role of Dumbledore, Richard Harris. In the Grand Staircase, you’ll notice a unique portrait of a Wizard who looks awfully similar to Richard Harris’ Dumbledore in the Chamber of Secrets and Sorcerer’s Stone. Richard Harris sadly passed away after these two films, and Michael Gambon replaced him in the sequels.

Phoenix appearance

Fawkes is one of Dumbledore’s most iconic pets in Harry Potter, and to everyone’s surprise, a Phoenix is also present in Hogwarts Legacy, which you rarely encounter. While we can’t say for certain if the Phoenix you capture in Hogwarts Legacy is Fawkes, we can conclude that it’s a possible relative of Fawkes. The reason is that the Phoenix you capture in-game is near Hogwarts, like Fawke, and Phoenixes are immortal and hard to come by.

House Elves

Dobby, the house elf, is one of the most beloved characters in the film franchise. House Elves are essential to Hogwarts because they clean the entire place at nighttime. Every time you explore Hogwarts at night, you’ll be able to find House Elves that constantly clean every nook and cranny of the castle, and you can even sneak yourself close to them before they teleport away once they spot you. You can also access the kitchen where the House Elves would prepare food for the students at the Grand Table.

Iconic Draco and Harry Quidditch scene

While we were expecting the Quidditch field to be in Hogwarts Legacy, we didn’t expect to have the game recreate the exact same infrastructure where Harry and Draco are chasing the Snitch at the edge of the field while flying underneath the scaffolding. You can try to recreate the scene yourself, but it’s honestly tough to do so, especially when you’ve upgraded your broom to the max level.
