Guy “DrDisRespect” Beahm announced a $100,000 zero build Fortnite duos tournament on Monday. The Hot Shot Duo Drop event will run at 4 p.m. ET on May 27.
Details are still sparse about the event, but this is not the first time DrDisRespect has ventured into tournament organizing. In 2018, DrDisRespect organized a $20,000 Fortnite event.
The Hot Shot Duo Drop event capitalizes on the resurgence of Fortnite’s popularity among streamers following the release of the Zero Build mode. Building is an aspect of Fortnite’s gameplay that relies on a very specific skillset. Zero build allows for popular streamers and FPS pros to return to the game without feeling the pressure of learning build mechanics.
Originally, the no building mode was a temporary feature. That quickly changed following the widespread appeal of the new mode. In March 2022, Epic Games made the decision to keep Zero Build as a permanent game mode. It launched on March 29 as a separate mode with Solo, Duos, Trios and Squads playlists.
DrDisRespect is not the first streamer to run a zero build tournament following the introduction of the game mode. Ludwig Ahgren, the popular YouTube streamer, created the Fortnite Monday tournament series. The Fortnite Monday series also offered $100,000 in prize money to entice participants.
A kick-off event for the Twitch Rivals Fortnite Creator Series also took place in the Zero Build mode. In it, three separate trios events ran in different regions. Yet again, the prizing was $100,000 (per region.) The event concluded on April 3.
DrDisRespect is a popular YouTube streamer. In June 2020, DrDisRespect was banned from Twitch for unknown reason. Since then, he has moved to YouTube as his streaming platform, where he continues to produce gaming content around FPS titles like Fortnite and Call of Duty.
