Fireteams competing to finish Destiny 2: The Witch Queen’s newest raid, Vow of the Disciple, are facing an unexpected but long-time enemy: disconnection error codes.
The race to become the world’s first team of six to complete Vow of the Disciple began at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, and while players began fighting against the Hive, Scorn and Taken within the Pyramid on Savathûn’s Throne World, others struggled to even stay in the raid. Bungie noted the surge in “ANTEATER, GUITAR, and BAT error codes” shortly after Vow of the Disciple launched and announced it has implemented a queue for players who don’t have The Witch Queen expansion in order to protect raiders from disconnection issues.
We are currently investigating a rise in error codes and server instability.
Players who do not own a Destiny 2 Season or Expansion will begin to see a sign-on queue.

Bungie’s rules for the world’s first completion include that the raid must be completed in one run, disconnecting from Vow of the Disciple means that players need to start the raid all over to compete for the title.
Prominent raid teams, smaller streamers and looking-for-group fireteams alike have dealt with disconnection from Vow of the Disciple. In one high-profile example, Redeem, one of the most popular Destiny 2 raid teams, faced multiple disconnections before the first encounter even began and fell about an hour behind in the race as a result. Several members of the team, which had not yet cleared the first encounter as of 3:30 p.m. ET, showed their frustration on social media.
“What a disaster,” longtime Destiny streamer and Redeem member Sweatcicle said on Twitter.

The disconnection errors for Vow of the Disciple come after days of preparation for what will likely go down as the biggest world’s first race of Destiny 2. With a power cap of 1530 that includes artifact power boosts, a head-start on gear thanks to the Legendary campaign for The Witch Queen and a delayed launch to the raid compared to the Season of the Risen overall, there were fewer barriers to being at-power for a Day 1 raid than even when Deep Stone Crypt was released.
A multi-stream on ProfessorBroman’s Twitch channel showed EpicDan22’s fireteam, which hadn’t had disconnection errors, on the second encounter in Vow of the Disciple as of 3:30 p.m. ET. There were fireteams out ahead of EpicDan22, but according to viewers, several other fireteams have cleared the second encounter but then hit a disconnection error of their own right afterward.
