The day that all Nightrunners were hoping for has finally come. Developer CD Projekt Red has revealed the first story expansion for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty during a livestream.

This expansion has been rumored and leaked for nearly a year, but we now have official confirmation of its existence. Unfortunately, CDPR did not reveal a concrete release date for the expansion. All we currently know is that Phantom Liberty will launch sometime in 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia.

If you’re wondering about the last-generation versions of Cyberpunk 2077, you’re not alone. However, given the disaster that the last-gen versions were upon launch, the developers have decided to abandon development for them. This means that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will no longer be receiving updates after Patch 1.6 arrives.

However, every owner of Cyberpunk 2077 will receive access to the Edgerunners update, which goes out today. This update includes the Transmog Station, Ripperdoc and Photo Mode additions, and the Roach Race mini-game, which is also available on mobile devices. The new Edgerunners Netflix show will also launch on Sept. 13.

Going back to Phantom Liberty, the developers didn’t go into too much detail regarding its content. We did receive a short teaser trailer for the expansion, though, which sees V and Johnny Silverhand take an oath for the New United States of America.

The story of Phantom Liberty revolves around a government agency for the New USA. The government has tasked V with reciting an oath to protect the New USA. Of course, Johnny butts in and doesn’t agree with V taking the oath, simply calling it a “bad idea.” Keanu Reeves returns as the voice of Johnny and looks to play another major role in Phantom Liberty as he did in the base game of Cyberpunk 2077.

If leaks are to be believed, then Phantom Liberty will introduce new combat mechanics, open up the map significantly, and see a plethora of other content arrive with it. We won’t know anything official until CDPR releases a full-fledged trailer for Phantom Liberty. This trailer will likely also have a firm release date attached to it as well. There’s no indication as to when that announcement could be coming, though.
