New York Subliners professional player Ian “Crimsix” Porter said on-stream Saturday that the Call of Duty League might not feature a third game mode in the 2022 CDL season.
In recent weeks, Crimsix has been the middle man between the Call of Duty League and its community. The Call of Duty legend has spoken out about multiple issues currently plaguing the league and let the community in on what’s going on leading up to the start of the 2022 season.
The three-time Call of Duty champion has lately focused on the season’s third game mode, which has yet to be decided. Recently, Crimsix claimed that the CDL was considering using Warzone as the third game mode for 2022. A CDL spokesperson denied this claim, but Crimsix remained adamant that the battle royale mode was considered.
This weekend, the Subliners player claimed the 2022 season might only feature Hardpoint and Search and Destroy.
The CDL reportedly still doesn’t know about 2022’s third game mode
Crimsix dropped the latest update live on Twitch when a viewer asked about the third game mode. The Subliners player responded by shedding some light on what the league is currently thinking.
“From what it’s sounding like, it sounds like we might do three SNDs. I don’t know,” Crimsix said. “They [Sledgehammer Games] can’t seem to figure out Control.”
Control, the third game mode currently being played in the Challengers scene, launched with a plethora of bugs in December. The spawns don’t seem to make sense, and players have been glitching out of the map while playing as well. Professional teams, like Atlanta FaZe, have been scrimmaging with Control, but the results haven’t been pretty.

It seems as if pros don’t want to play Control in its current state. However, the start of the 2022 CDL season is one month away, meaning the league doesn’t have much time to let Sledgehammer Games work out all of the bugs with the mode.
It’s unclear if Crimsix’s claim is true but it would make sense given the state of Control in Vanguard. If the CDL does decide to go with three maps of SND, the game mode rotation for the 2022 season could look like this:
- Map 1: Hardpoint
- Map 2: Search and Destroy
- Map 3: Search and Destroy
- Map 4: Hardpoint
- Map 5: Search and Destroy
The 2022 CDL action kicks off with the CDL Kick-Off Classic on Jan. 21, a preseason competition that will not count toward the season standings, at the Esports Stadium Arlington in Arlington, Texas.
