An employee from Creatures Inc. has seemingly revealed on LinkedIn that Detective Pikachu 2 will be coming to Nintendo Switch in the near future.
The apparent leak was first pointed out by Famiboards user MetalLord and reported on by Nintendo Life. In the leak, MetalLord shared a screenshot of Creatures Inc. senior programmer Jonathan Murphy’s LinkedIn profile. In his experience section, Murphy described working on “one unannounced project and one nearing release, Detective Pikachu 2.”
It is worth noting that Murphy has updated the language on his LinkedIn page since the screenshot first began to circulate. Instead of an unannounced project, he instead references a canceled project. In addition, he now describes Detective Pikachu 2 as simply “in development.” As a result, it is unclear how soon fans can expect official updates about the Detective Pikachu sequel from The Pokémon Company.

The first iteration of this Pokémon spin-off series was a Japan-exclusive eShop title called Great Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Duo, which launched on the Nintendo 3DS in February of 2016. Then, the first full version of Detective Pikachu launched around the globe in March of 2018.
The game received a live-action film adaptation in May of 2019. Later that same month, The Pokémon Company revealed that a sequel to the video game was in development for the Nintendo Switch. However, there have not been any formal updates about the Detective Pikachu 2 release date since then.

Meanwhile, it is unclear what the canceled project Murphy references on LinkedIn is. It could potentially be Pokémon Sleep. This app was announced in May of 2019 and has not been officially mentioned by The Pokémon Company since then. However, a Pokémon GO datamine from earlier this year appears to show plans for Pokémon Sleep integration, suggesting the game is still in development.
