The collection of incredible talent continues over at Team Liquid. The team is officially acquiring former Gen.G support, Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in.

This news comes right after the breaking story that Team Liquid had just acquired midlaner Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen from Cloud9. It was a necessary upgrade for the team, as their former midlaner, Eugene “Pobelter” Park, was simply not performing as they needed him to. Team Liquid must be trying to avoid the same fate as their predecessor, Team Solo Mid. The biggest problem was that TSM could find regional success with ease, but could never flourish on international stages.

Another big problem for Team Liquid would be their support position with Kim “Olleh” Joo-sung. Along with Pobelter, Olleh would be a pretty lackluster support next to their superstar ADC, Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng. Periodically, he would play decently. However, more often than not, he would find himself giving away free kills to the enemy team or playing horribly on engage champions. Many people would call for Olleh’s head throughout the year, even though Team Liquid would win both splits in 2018.
Doublelift has been the biggest reason for Team Liquid’s success. No one can deny this. However, now that Team Liquid is upgrading their team tremendously, the weight on Doublelift’s shoulder will be alleviated drastically. He can rely on his teammates more than ever, with the addition of Jensen and now CoreJJ. The 2017 World Champion would speak highly of the superstar North American ADC, saying, “Doublelift is the main reason behind my decision to join Team Liquid. I know for a fact that Doublelift is a good player as he always attends Worlds, and I believe we can both improve together by having a good relationship.”
Looking Forward with Team Liquid
Although this team does have some amazing talent, it will still take time for the team to mesh together. We have also seen how supposed “superteams” can pan out if we look at TSM. Therefore, Team Liquid must take things slow in order to figure out where everyone stands on the roster. CoreJJ would have some wise words in a press release about the new team:
The new roster for Team Liquid has players with good skill and long lasting careers. Of course everyone will have their own thoughts and it will be different at first, but I think it’s important for everyone to learn from each other and create good teamwork. The most important thing when going to another region is to maintain a comfortable atmosphere while also making sure you are approachable to your teammates.
He would also speak on his decision to leave Korea, saying that he wanted a new challenge after his Worlds run with Gen.G this year.
The three years I played in Gen.G were very valuable and memorable, but after an unsuccessful run at Worlds this year I wanted to put myself in a position to improve and challenge myself. I looked around the world for the team that wanted me, and I believed that being in NA with Team Liquid will enable me to head towards the next step.
If this iteration of Team Liquid can work together, we should expect them to sweep the NA LCS once again. The combination of veteran, experienced talent should push the team to greater heights, and if they are lucky, could help them in Europe when Worlds 2019 rolls along.
