On Friday, FIFA 19 officially released worldwide. This came with a lot of news and content for Ultimate Team players. EA certainly knows how to build hype around events in the calendar, and this is one to remember for all FIFA fans. Along with the in-game content, EA has become extremely generous online, which we will get on to later.

Ultimate Team is FIFA’s most popular mode, so it was certain that EA was going to release some content for the release weekend of the game. However, no one knew EA was going to drop so many different things for all of the players.

Ones to Watch Promotion

As expected, EA released the new OTW items on the release date. These items are players who were recently transferred to a different club. If the player plays well on a matchday, they may get an In-Form item. I went over In-Form items in a previous article where I looked at the new Team of the Week. However, once a “Ones to Watch” player receives an In-Form item, their OTW item will get upgraded too. EA call this a “dynamic item.”

EA released 23 items which players can obtain through packs, or through the transfer market within Ultimate Team. There are a lot of players here that will catch the eyes of the FIFA community.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Of course, Cristiano Ronaldo would make it into the Ones to Watch promotion. After shaking the football world with his move to Juventus, the Portuguese attacker has blessed Turin with his wizardry. His Ones to Watch item will surely be upgraded a lot of times during the season as he is bound to perform well for the Italian giants.

Fred

After impressing in Ukraine for Shakhtar Donetsk, Fred secured a big-money move to Manchester United. In FIFA, Fred’s item matches the meta of the game. With balanced attributes in each area as well as the combination of 4-star weak foot and 4-star skill moves, Fred is one to look out for in FIFA alone. However, he has not stood out for his new club in real-world football just yet.

Riyad Mahrez

Winning the Premier League title in such fashion is sure to grab the attention of major teams worldwide. After winning it all with Leicester City in 2016, Riyad Mahrez finally transferred to Manchester City for a whopping £60,000,000. He has already impressed for the blues after scoring a couple of goals in their opening fixtures. As he becomes more comfortable in the team, he will be sure to secure some In-Form items throughout the season.

Player of the Month Promotion

In the month of August, Lucas Moura won the player of the month title in the Premier League. Similarly to previous editions of FIFA, EA has the rights to this award and it often publishes a Squad Builder challenge to allow players to obtain a special item. Today was no different. EA released the SBC for Lucas 30 minutes after all of the other content dropped, so it took a lot of players by surprise.

It is refreshing to see EA publish such a cheap SBC too; it currently costs around 50,000 coins to complete, which is not a lot for most players who will be grinding the game. Finally, Lucas’ item looks very overpowered with high pace and dribbling, along with some good attributes in shooting and passing.

UEFA Squad Builder Challenges

Along with the Ones to Watch promotion, a special UEFA SBC was released. This allowed players to trade in a very cheap team (roughly 10,000 coins) to get a loan version of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who looks like a great item for any Ultimate Team player. As well as this loan item, players could obtain a “2 player UCL” pack. The pack contains two Champions League-specific items. In this pack, players get can items such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Kevin De Bruyne, Kylian Mbappe, and many more that are part of this year’s Champions League competition.

This is another refreshing thing to see from EA. The company has finally listened to the community when it comes to Squad Builder Challenges and what we want to see from them.

Social Media

Along with all of the in-game content, EA has been generous on its social media platforms. As it was the official release day of FIFA, EA was hosting random FIFA streamers on its Twitch channel. The company also tweeted people’s streams out to help them grow. As well as this, they gave multiple game codes to these streamers to give away. So everyone got a chance to play the game. This is a great way for EA to promote its game whilst helping out rising content creators.

What do you think of all the promotions for FIFA 19’s release? We’d love to hear from you. If you enjoyed this article, feel free to check out our other FIFA coverage.
