The punches seem to keep coming for Epic Games, as their recent activity regarding Fortnite has come under severe scrutiny. Beginning with the launch of Season 8, Fortnite has been on a steady decline in terms of community perception. This all came to a head in a recent competitive collegiate Fortnite tournament.
Coming to the end of the Fortnite Collegiate Starleague tournament, two University of Georiga players made their opinion on the game crystal clear. After they won in the finals, they went on a mini-rant directed at Epic.
Players start to speak out publically
While there’s no denying Fortnite‘s popularity, it is not nearly as well-liked as it once was. Though people are still playing, they’re clearly not happy about it.

Even after these players won the tournament, they still voiced their disdain for both Fortnite and Epic. Citing an unhealthy balance in the game, the two players decided to stop playing altogether.
“We don’t really like the game that much anymore. We’ll see what happens. Epic is kind of messing around a little bit with the way they are balancing everything.”
In the past few months, both casual and pro players alike have voiced a similar opinion on social media. Some of the best and most followed personalities in the scene have been criticizing Epic for months on end.
However, this is the first time a player has publically criticized the developers on a mainstage. Moreover, this is one of the first instances of a competitive player saying they’ll quit competing due to developer incompetence.

There’s no denying the fact that Fortnite is headed down a treacherous path. Already potentially losing the most popular player on the planet, Tfue, more players will probably follow after the World Cup if issues aren’t resolved.
Since the World Cup is in full swing, most players don’t have a choice to stop competing. There’s far too much money on the line to simply quit over gripes with the game. However, after the World Cup concludes, some players will most likely quit competing.
While the core of Fortnite is still present, there are way too many game-breaking bugs and glitches. Players have already grown tired of logging on to play, but without the World Cup to motivate them, we will doubtless see more videos like the one above.
One note: major props to the two players in the video for their brutal honesty. The only way Fortnite will improve is if the community rattles together to show Epic that the game needs to change or else many will quit playing.
