More roster news for Cloud9 this week, as they are sending jungler Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen to the C9 Academy. In his place, it seems that former C9A jungler Robert “Blaber” Huang will replace him on the NA LCS roster for week four. The team confirms this news via their broadcast of the Cloud9 Academy games.
Cloud9 is in the middle of one of their worst season ever as an LCS organization. In the beginning of the split, they would bench three of their original starting roster players. Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen, Andy “Smoothie” Ta and Zachary “Sneaky” Scuderi would all be on the bench before the start of this current split. In their place, Cloud9 would run their new-look lineup, which had Licorice, Svenskeren, Goldenglue, Keith and Zeyzal.
Unfortunately, that lineup would fail the first three weeks of the NA LCS. As a group, they would go 1-5, even when they would return Jensen and Smoothie into the lineup on the third weekend. Additionally, their All-Star ADC player Sneaky would return in week four, where they would find a little bit of success.
Svenskeren’s Setbacks
In the jungle, Svenskeren has not been looking too hot. In fact, right now he is statistically the worst jungler in the NA LCS. He has the least amount of kills amongst North American junglers, and also has the most deaths. Granted, being on the worst team in the league will affect your stats. Still, his problems began long before this season began.
Sven’s regression began back when he left Team Solo Mid. Back in the 2017 Summer Split, Svenskeren was worst player on that TSM squad that did not make the Finals. When he would join Cloud9 in the 2018 Spring Split, he was also the worst player on the team. This season seems to be no different, as he not able to contribute to the team much.
The problem stems from how Svenskeren affects the game. On a good day, Sven can be decent, but nothing too special. However, Sven’s bad days have become more and more frequent. On his bad days he becomes a huge liability for Cloud9, a team trying to pick up the pieces after a horrible start to the season.
We will need to watch and see if Svenskeren can find motivation, in order to find some kind of form to return to the LCS soon.
A New Challenger Approaches: Blaber!
On the other hand, Blaber comes from the Cloud9 Academy with a fresh start. This will be his debut on the NA LCS stage, and there seems to be nothing to lose for the young jungler. He was one of the best junglers in the NA Academy. Although the level of play is very different from the LCS, hopefully he can bring some momentum and a new style of play to help Cloud9 find their way in this new meta. We will need to see if Blaber can push Cloud9 to a possible playoff spot in the coming weeks.
Cloud9 faces off against OpTic Gaming and Team Liquid this weekend, two very contrasting teams. It will be a good challenge for Cloud9 moving forward.
