After two years as Counter Logic Gaming’s LCS General Manager, Daniel “Tafo” Lee has been relieved of his duties effective Friday.

The decision comes after two very poor years for the CLG League of Legends team. The team has finished in the bottom two teams in the standings four splits in a row. 2021 was particularly bad, with CLG finishing the year with a 12-33 game record. This was bad enough for last place in the entire league.
Tafo joined CLG back in May of 2018 originally as a business developer. Before joining CLG, Tafo was well-known in the Super Smash Bros. community. Right before he joined CLG, Tafo was most recently employed by Cloud9. He acted as Melee legend Joseph “Mang0” Manuel Marquez’ personal coach.
During his time with CLG, he quickly worked through the ranks while doing data and analytics for the organization. Eventually, he found himself with the General Manager position near the end of 2019. During his time with CLG, Tafo oversaw all day-to-day operations for the LCS team and also collaborated with roster moves all while still doing data and analytics work.

When Tafo took over the team, CLG were coming off a third-place finish in the 2019 LCS summer split where they fell just short of a Worlds 2019 birth in the regional finals. Since then, CLG has been at the bottom of the LCS standings. In Tafo’s two years, CLG has made many roster changes including bringing in Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen and Finn “Finn” Wiestål but the team was never able to put it all together.
Tafo made headlines for the wrong reasons earlier this year when a video surfaced of him telling CLG players that he was going to make roster changes after poor performances. The organization faced immediate backlash.
The move comes right before the start of the League of Legends off-season. There are numerous question marks CLG needs to answer with their roster. CLG has already started with cleaning house when it comes to the front office. Earlier in the summer, CLG announced the hiring of Greg Kim to take over as the new head of CLG. There is currently no word on who Tafo’s replacement will be.
