It feels like ages since Counter Logic Gaming took down Evil Geniuses for first place, but it’s only been a couple of weeks; in just that short time, CLG has fallen from first place to the middle of the pack. In their last five games, they have gone 1-4 including a brutal loss in the rematch against EG. But when looking at the split as a whole, CLG’s support player Philippe “Poome” Lavoie-Giguere isn’t worried. In fact, he’s actually pretty content with where CLG is.

“None of us are not confident, even if we lose a couple of games that’s not really a problem,” Poome said. “Since we did better than the last split already, I think we are doing pretty good,”

CLG are in a position for the first time in a long time to power their way into the playoffs. Despite eight of the 10 teams making it into postseason play, CLG still hasn’t done that in two years. Poome has his sights set on making the playoffs and is both aware of how good the team is now and the work that needs to be done to reach their goals.

“I don’t think we are a team that’s going to go undefeated or anything, so we need to be able to take the losses,” Poome said. “I don’t think it’s the time to be sad about losses and to break confidence, we’re still doing fine, we still just need to learn and grow to get better every day.”

When it comes to Poome’s improvement specifically, he is working hard every day; after scrim blocks, Poome is logging into Champion’s Queue every night, trying to be the best player he can be. According to Oracleselixir.com, Poome has put in 22 of his 82 total Champions Queue games in just the last week. That grinding earned him an Oracle’s Elixir Performance Rating of “S,” putting him in the top 10 players of the league.

Poome is feeling progress in his grind. “I think I’ve definitely learned a lot, I definitely improved since the beginning of the year,” he said. “But there’s still a lot of stuff to work on.”

Poome has been one of the better players on CLG, along with his bot lane partner Fatih “Luger” Güven. Although EG got the upper hand this time, he still thinks that CLG’s duo is as good as anyone other; that includes Team Liquid Honda, their next opponents.

“I wouldn’t say [EG’s bot lane] are necessarily better than us, I think we compete pretty good against them,” Poome said. “They didn’t really do much. TL is kind of different than EG in terms of bot lane; I think [Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in] has been playing a bit worse than he has in the last splits.”

“I think getting a good bot lane matchup will be pretty good for use and we’ll be able to maybe abuse their bot lane and their current weaknesses.”
