When Call of Duty: Warzone 2 was fully revealed, one question was on players’ minds: are there still loadouts?

For a couple of hours, we actually didn’t know how the loadout system worked in Warzone 2. The streamers that were playtesting the new Al Mazrah map couldn’t even figure it out. What we could decipher from this new system was that players can purchase base weapons at a buy station, now called The Shop, and buy attachments for those weapons. There were no options to select a loadout, however. Because of this, many players thought that Warzone 2 was simply doing away with the entire loadout system.

However, after seeing more gameplay and reading the newest blog from Call of Duty, we can now confirm that loadouts are still in Warzone 2. Although, they will not work the same as they do right now.

How will loadouts work in Call of Duty: Warzone 2?

In the blog post from Call of Duty, the developers state the following: “You purchase these custom weapons from here [The Shop]. Note this takes the place of a full loadout (your Primary, Secondary, Tactical, and Lethal as well as Perks).”

The Shop is essentially a buy station that players can use to purchase buy-backs, gas masks, killstreaks, armor, equipment, and more. The main highlight of The Shop, though, is the ability to buy a custom weapon.

While it appeared like streamers couldn’t purchase loadouts when they played Warzone 2, you will be able to buy a custom weapon loadout when the game launches on Nov. 16. However, you will only be buying your custom weapon. The rest of your class — such as perks, equipment, and more — will not come along with that purchase.

As always, you construct your custom loadout in the Gunsmith before a match begins. Then, you can purchase any weapon from your loadout slots for a set amount of money. These weapons can have any attachment that you have unlocked for that specific weapon. The Gunsmith in Warzone 2 will be the same as it is in Modern Warfare 2, so this means five attachments maximum on every weapon.

To sum up, custom loadouts are returning in Warzone 2. Players can buy them from The Shop, but that purchase is only for the weapon and not anything else. It’s certainly a change from the current version of Warzone, but it doesn’t seem like as big of a change as it originally did. Loadouts are still in Warzone 2, and that’s what most players should take away.
