The Steam Deck is a handheld gaming device that essentially acts as a pocket PC. It was developed by Valve, the creator of Steam, and can play a wide variety of games. Of course, players mainly have access to titles that are only available through Steam, but there are some ways around that. Although, not every game on Steam is playable on the Steam Deck, for various reasons. In the past few months, fans have been wondering if Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is supported on Steam Deck.
Warzone 2 is one of the most popular multiplayer games on the planet, so it makes sense that players would wonder if they can take the game with them on the go. While the long answer is yes, you can play Warzone 2 on Steam Deck, the process of getting there is not simple.
Playing Warzone 2 on Steam Deck
Officially, Warzone 2 is not supported on Steam Deck. Given how poorly the battle royale title runs on modern PCs, it’s no surprise that it’s not supported by the handheld device.
However, there is a clever way around this, and it involves loading a version of Windows 10 onto a MicroSD card. The base Steam Deck does not use Windows, but players can do something called “dual-booting,” where they load two separate operating systems. One if the base operating system that Steam Deck operates off of and the other is a version of Windows.
If players want to see exactly how to do this, they should watch this in-depth YouTube video from Wagner’s TechTalk. It runs fans through exactly what they need to do to install a MicroSD card and install Windows on it.
Once players have Windows running on Steam Deck, they can simply download Steam, log into their account, and then download Warzone 2 from there. Mind you, the graphics of Warzone 2 will need to be significantly lowered in order to get the game running at a stable FPS. And even then, your FPS won’t be too high. However, you will have Warzone 2 running on your handheld PC.
