Even nearly four years after its release, COD Mobile remains one of the most popular mobile games on the market. It has surpassed over 700 million downloads and is still receiving new seasonal updates every month.

The content coming to the game has never been more plentiful, and this has resulted in a loyal and growing player base. A part of that growing player base is users that don’t have much experience with mobile games in general. As a result, these players might not be used to the controls that COD Mobile implements. While players can always learn the mobile controls, some are asking if COD Mobile can be played with a PS4 controller.

The PS4 controller is arguably the most popular modern controller, as the PS4 was wildly successful and is still played today in 2023. Players have grown attached to it over the years and don’t want to use another input device.

Playing COD Mobile with a PS4 controller

In 2023, COD Mobile players are fully able to use several different controllers, including the PS4 Dualshock. Players can also use the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 controllers. The only exception in this regard is players are unable to use the first-generation iteration of the PS4 Dualshock controller.

To get your PS4 controller up and running in COD Mobile, you need to follow the steps below:

  • Hold down the Share and PS buttons at the same time
  • Turn on the mobile device’s Bluetooth setting
  • Find the “wireless controller” option when the Bluetooth is searching for a compatible device
  • Connect the wireless controller with the Bluetooth
  • Open the COD Mobile application and go to the “Controller settings” tab
  • Press “Enable Controller support” in the settings

Once you have enabled your controller in COD Mobile, you can use it just as you would on your console.

What happens when you use a PS4 controller in COD Mobile?

If you decide to start using your controller, there are some factors you need to be aware of with COD Mobile specifically.

Since you are using an external device to play, you will only be matched up with other players using an external device. This includes players using other controllers or even those using an emulator to play on PC. The developers do this in order to keep the playing field fair, as users playing with their fingers on a phone will have a difficult time keeping up with enemies on a controller or keyboard and mouse.

In addition to that, you can customize your PS4 controller keybinds, but only by going through your phone’s settings. For iPhone users, for example, you can head to the settings while the controller is connected and customize different profiles to change individual keybinds.

Of course, the COD Mobile settings also have some controller options you can change, including sensitivity and aim assist. I recommend going through the COD Mobile settings before you do anything to your controller outside of the game.

Aside from that, everything else will stay the same for you in COD Mobile, so have fun playing.
