Spider-Man 2 is the highly awaited sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man and Miles Morales. While players can’t wait to get back to slinging across the burrows of New York City as either of the web-shooting heroes, there are some questions still left unanswered. One of the big questions the community has before the release of Spider-Man 2 is whether or not you can play as Venom.

Venom has played a large role in the marketing in the lead-up to the launch of the game. It’s one of the most popular villains in the Marvel universe and it’s confirmed that it will make an appearance throughout Spider-Man 2. However, what has not been confirmed is the ability to step into the shoes of Venom and cause havoc around New York City as the villain.

In this guide, I’ll go over everything we currently know about Venom and whether it will be a playable character in Spider-Man 2 or not.

Playing as Venom in Spider-Man 2

At the time of writing, we’re still unsure of Venom’s status as a playable character in the new Spider-Man title. While it’s confirmed that Venom will play a role in the story, the developers or anyone at Sony or Marvel has not come out to say you can play as the villain.

The same can be said for MJ, as it’s unclear if there will be more stealth missions designed for her like we saw in the original Spider-Man game in 2018. As of right now, all we know is that you can play as either Peter Parker or Miles Morales. The game implements a similar system to GTA 5, where you can bounce around as either character to complete their specific story missions or side quests.

If we are able to play as Venom at some point, though, I would imagine it’s only for a mission or two, so don’t expect to freely run around as Venom all the time in Spider-Man 2.
