This year’s Blast Pro Series Copenhagen took fans for a treat right off the bat on day one. Na’Vi, Astralis, FaZe, NiP, MIBR, and Cloud9 competed in a series of best-of-one matchups with the two teams with the most points going through to tomorrow’s final for a share of the $250,000 prize pool.

NiP chase down FaZe Clan

One of the first matchups brought Ninjas in Pyjamas against FaZe Clan to Mirage, one of FaZe’s favorites. And so, after a comfortable lead following a strong ct-side, FaZe were looking confident going to their t-side with an 11-4 lead. However, everything turned upside down as FaZe lost the initial pistol and the following three rounds before getting a round themselves. Dennis “dennis” Edman and Jonas “Lekr0” Olofsson played extremely well to get their team back into it. And so they did. Following an ace from Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovács to secure match point, the score was 15-14. The Ninjas got to work and secured the last round to split points, both teams earning one point each following a draw. Lackluster performances from Finn “karrigan” Andersen and Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer cost FaZe a matchup they should have won with ease.

Astralis fend off MIBR

The Astralis versus MIBR match was a clash between two giants on Inferno. Marcelo “coldzera” David went up against Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth showcasing performances of the highest level of skill. The players attained 33 and 29 frags respectively and led their teams throughout the match.

The Brazilian-American mix got off the right foot with a successful pistol and followed that up with another two rounds. However, their terrorist side all went downhill after that. The following rounds were pure hell for MIBR, as they struggled to hold their own against this year’s best team. The half finished 10-5 for Astralis. On their ct-side, MIBR yet again won the pistol, as well as the following round before Astralis stringed three rounds of their own. The American mix then switched on to respond with seven straight rounds, denying the Danes any easy execution on bomb-sites.

coldzera’s magnificent effort was not enough to defeat Astralis

Unfortunately for them, Astralis recomposed and Emil “Magisk” Reif destroyed MIBR’s dreams of a comeback after he got an excellent 3k to finally clinch a round. The two following rounds also went to Astralis and so the match finished with a 16-14 score for the Danes. Definitely, a heart-breaking outcome for Made in Brazil.

The Ninjas return to catch Astralis off guard

The second match of these two teams took them to Overpass where a strong ct-side dictated the outcome of the game. Magisk opened things up swiftly for Astralis by getting an impressive 3k on the very first pistol round. The counter-terrorist side presented by the Danes made it seem as if this matchup was going to be a formality. And as far as the first half considered, it did indeed seem that way as the Danes went into the second half with an 11-4 lead. Things, however, would go in a totally different direction as we saw a revived NiP on their own ct-side.

The Swedes made life hell for the Danes, as they were strikingly effective in both retaking sites as well as defending them. This led to NiP putting together five rounds in a row before Astralis could respond with a round of their own. Somehow, Astralis managed to pull two rounds to bring it to 14-13.

REZ brings his team together after showing an amazing performance on ct-side

In the end, it was Fredrik “REZ” Sterner’s team that came out on top. REZ attained 26 kills, got a 3k twice on ct-side, and was the driving force behind NiP’s massive comeback. The match ended 16-14 in favor of the Ninjas following an exhilarating comeback.
