Ever wanted to know who the best Smash players in the world are?
Beginning in 2015, esports organization Panda established the PGR to keep track of the top Super Smash Bros. for Wii U players. They continued to create an algorithmic ranking of the best players in Smash Ultimate from 2018 to 2022.
However, following recent controversies that led Panda CEO Alan Bunney to step down, a new ranking called the UltRank has emerged to replace the PGR. An amalgamation of three different algorithms — OrionRank, EchoRank, and ΩRank — the UltRank 2022 ranked the best Smash Ultimate players in the world from June to December of 2022.

More about the UltRank 2022 top 100
Even after his least dominant season to date, MkLeo still emerged at the top of the UltRank 2022. As a result, he has continued his streak of finishing in first place on every offline Ultimate ranking to date. However, players like acola, Sparg0 and a recently-resurgent Tweek could challenge his title as the best player in the world this year.

As the first international ranking of the best Smash Ultimate players post quarantine, several players naturally made high debuts. Some of the standout players include Onin and Miya. Though neither of them appeared on the PGRU v3’s regional rankings, their strong second halves of 2022 allowed them to debut on the UltRank 2022 at No. 6 and No. 17, respectively.
Notably, the ranking period for the UltRank 2022 excluded some of Japan’s biggest tournaments of the year. As a result, some Japanese powerhouses like Yoshidora and Hero debuted a bit lower than expected. Nevertheless, these players could easily climb higher up the rankings in 2023.
