OpTic Gaming may be absorbing yet another Envy team after members of Team Envy VALORANT were seen posing in OpTic Gaming jerseys on the Envy website.
Envy and OpTic Gaming merged at the end of 2021 with Envy taking over the OpTic Gaming brand, which had previously been under the NRG Esports banner. Following the acquisition of OpTic Gaming, Envy merged its Call of Duty roster Dallas Empire with OpTic Chicago to form OpTic Texas. This was shortly after the former Envy Halo Infinite team rebranded to OpTic Gaming as well, making the previous in-game Envy skins a limited-time run.
Outside of Halo and Call of Duty, Envy and OpTic Gaming were seen as separate titles under the same banner. However, it appears that OpTic Gaming may be taking over yet another Envy branded team in 2022. In the Envy Shop, under OpTic Gaming, there appeared a VALORANT custom jersey for purchase. In the promotional images both Victor “Victor” Wong and Pujan “FNS” Mehta can be seen posing in OpTic Gaming branded jerseys. At the time of discovery, all sizes of the Optic Gaming VALORANT jersey were out of stock without mention of them on any form of social media.
Envy’s secret rebrand to OpTic Gaming
As previously stated, the custom VALORANT OpTic Gaming jerseys went undetected on the internet until a Twitter user by the name of Xena5832 stumbled upon them on Wednesday. Neither the OpTic Gaming nor Envy Twitter accounts drew attention to these jerseys. A few hours after the jerseys were discovered the official VALORANT esports website updated to replace the Team Envy name and logo with OpTic Gaming for the team’s future matches. This all but confirms the rebrand for the team.
Envy rose to the top in VALORANT during 2021 and participated as one of the three North American teams at VALORANT Champions in December. Due to their success, Envy were invited to the VALORANT Champions Tour Challengers 1 main event. The team hasn’t played or been spotted since Champions, meaning there could have been a secret rebrand that hasn’t been revealed yet. VCT Challengers 1 begins on Feb. 11 and, so far, the Envy logo has not been changed to that of OpTic Gaming.
